Question by Nurse Autumn Intactivist NFP:
This is a question for the Pro-Routine Infant Circumcision crowd?
Why should it be the parents choice to decide whether or not the child will be circumcised rather than the owner of the penis (the child)? Even if there really were medical benefits (I do not believe there are), circumcision is not a medically pressing issue. There is no reason to have it done now, rather then when the child is old enough to make the decision for himself.
#1- Infants are not sexually active, so there are no worries about STD’s
#2- Even though the studies in Africa are flawed, even the researchers said that circumcision did *not* reduce HIV risk after 2 years post circ. As we all know, infants are not at risk of contracting HIV via the penis.
#3- It is easier for the parents to care for an intact penis because the foreskin is fused to the head of the penis. No special care is required until the foreskin becomes retractable, in which case, the boy is old enough to care for it himself.
#4- It actually hurts LESS to be circ’ed as an adult, because they can give sufficient numbing, and even general anesthesia if so desired. Also, they can send them home with powerful pain killers for the post-op recovery period. Not to mention, the man has a choice in his circ status.
#5- Even though UTI’s are rare in boys, they are not that bad. (I just had one myself a few weeks ago) Infact, they are 8 times more common in females, yet we do not amputate parts of their genitals. We give them antibiotics and they are fine.
#6- They will not be made fun of in school, the circ rate in America is about 50%, so this generation will have an entirely different view of circumcision.
Noah’s Mommy- I WAS just asking a question. These are the facts, and the facts are, that yu have violated your sons human rights. You in NO WAY answered the question, thus showing that you have nothing to say in defense. You are giulty and you know it, you just dont want to admit it.
Stef- yes, I am pro-choice. I also vaccinate my son. I am not taking away anything that belongs to him. Vaccines simply stimulate the immune system. There are also real benefits from vaccinating
Kisses come in fives- again, because it is not your penis to decide to amputate part of. Discipline methods are different. They are not permanatly altering a part of the body nor do they make the sex life less enjoyable for both partners.
Are you ok with people circumcising their daughters? After all, it is THEIR daughter. What about tattooing their 4 month old?

Question by Joshua&Ashley[Addies 'rents]:
REcall on cribs. Saw on News just now. This your crib?
NEW YORK — Delta Enterprises is voluntarily recalling almost 1.6 million older versions of its drop-side cribs after two infant deaths, a company spokesman said Monday.
The company said about 985,000 drop-side cribs made between 1995 and 2005 require safety pegs that consumers may have lost during reassembly. Another 600,000 drop-side cribs made during the same time have spring pegs that can become worn out after many uses.
The recall doesn’t affect any cribs in retail inventory now.
The company will offer replacement safety pegs or spring peg kits to consumers.
“We’re erring on the side of caution,” said Jack Gutt, spokesman for New York-based Delta Enterprise. “Anyone who calls and has these cribs that were constructed in these time periods, we’re going to send anybody and everybody either additional safety pegs or the retrofit kit.”
The company is setting up a web site at http://www.cribrecallcenter.com for consumers. The site should be available by Tuesday. Consumers can also call 1-800-876-5304.
Just dont want anyone to get hurt on a handme down crib.

Question by Dustin R.:
Does anyone think all this political correctness has gotten out of hand?
I remember when Michael Richards had a meltdown on stage a couple of years ago. What he did was wrong, and he apologized. However, I hear Monique making racist comments all the time, but I never see anyone rake her over the coals. I have met more racist black people in my life than I have white people. You would not believe how many times I was called a “honky” or a “cracker” by them. Yet if I used the N-word, I’d be getting lectured by the ACLU. I once dated a Japanese girl when I was in the service. Her parents ostracized me and referred to me as a “gaijin.” Because I was not Japanese, I was not worthy of marrying her daughter. Earlier this evening I explained that I have to ask for an equal amount of men and women in the surveys I do for my telephone survey job. Naturally, women cooperate more. When I get the maximum number of females, I am instructed to ask for the men. A lot of these women get offended when I ask for the man of the house. Others even claim they are the man of the house. They think I can’t tell the difference between a man’s voice and a woman’s voice. A few of them even tried giving me a lecture. Here is another scenario. I was raised by a single mom, so I have all the respect in the world for them. Two years ago, I was invited to a Christmas celebration by an elder black lady. Her daughter was in her early 20′s, and she had just had a newborn baby. My curiosity got the ideal of me, and I asked where the dad was. After all, this is a easy question, and it’s kind of hard to ignore it. They all told me that the mom was the father. After that, I brushed it off because I figured it was a touchy subject. I am not stupid; I know how babies are conceived. I was not criticizing this woman for having a bastard child; I asked the same question I envision this kid will when he grows up. So because I ask this question, I am a male chauvinist all of a sudden. Because I think the Monique is racist, and the Reginald Denny beating in the L.A. riots was a hate crime, I am now a damn racist cracker. At least that’s what it seems. This may come as a shock to you, but I do not feel guilty about being white or male. I have tried diligently to be color-blind, but it’s kind of hard to be sometimes when these socioeconomic problems are right in front of our faces. I have a mild form of autism known as Asperger’s Syndrome. I have been discriminated against for that. Why did not the media crucify Denis Leary or Michael Savage for their inflammatory remarks about autism? Where is my affirmative action? Why do not I have some obnoxious loudmouth like Jesse Jackson singing his heart out for me? Instead we’ve got Jenny McCarthy going around giving parents false hope claiming her son is “cured.” Plus, several parents are now terrified of getting their children vaccinated because they’re convinced their children will be autistic. There’s even a group called Autism Talks that wants us exterminated from the gene pool.

Endangered Mountain Gorillas
The safety of hundreds of mountain gorillas living in different parts of Africa depends on the habitat that these animals live in. Mountain gorillas have been endangered for years in many different ways. Endangered mountain gorillas are very similar to humans. There are three different groups of gorillas and the mountain gorilla is one of them. There are some differences between these gorillas.
Mature male mountain gorillas are called silverbacks. The height that a silverback gorilla can reach up to is 5’6. The height of a female mountain gorilla is 5ft. A mountain gorilla has black and brown fur with black skin on its chest, fingers, armpits, bottom of their feet, palms, and faces. The weight of a silverback is 300-500 pounds. The weight of a female gorilla is 150-250pounds. The scientific name for a mountain gorilla is gorilla berengei. Mountain gorillas belong to the gorilla family.
Mountain gorillas are found in different parts of Africa in 285 square miles in the rain forests of Rwanda, Uganda and Zaire. Their habitats are in tropical rain forests in the forest edges and clearings, wet lowland forests, swamps, and abandoned fields. Eastern Lowland gorillas and Western Lowland gorillas also live in Zaire, but in different parts. All of these gorillas are very similar to each other. Mountain Gorillas live in cooler areas than the other two groups of gorillas.
Many of these gorillas are losing their homes. The rain forests are being cut down and used as farm land. These peaceful animals are being endangered because of genetic diseases transmitting very easily between human and other primate species. Sadly the health care for humans in the area is poor and therefore AIDS, malaria and a mess of other junk increase in the area. When humans enter the jungle to hunt, farm, poach, monitor, or live, they bring those diseases with them. People poach mountain gorillas for bush meat and trophies.
Gorillas eat 200 types of leaves, tubers, flowers, fruit, fungus and some insects. Some of their favorite foods include bamboo, thistles and wild celery. They do not drink water. Male gorillas eat approximately 50 pounds a day. They are herbivores and vegetarians.
When female gorillas are 10- 12 years old and are fully grown, they are able to reproduce. They only have 3 babies in their lifetime. Gorillas are pregnant for about 8 to 9.5 months. Newborn gorillas weigh only about 3-4 pounds at birth. At 4 months, the baby gorilla clutches onto their mother’s fur to get on her back. Baby gorillas can walk before they are 9 months old. When the gorilla is two years old, they are able to chew on vines and branches. Moms feed their babies on milk for the first 2.5 years of their life. When they are old enough, gorillas begin to build their own sleeping nests out of vegetation. Young gorillas stay with their mom for 3-4 years. Adult male gorillas will care for orphaned young gorillas. The lifespan of a gorilla is 30- 50 years.
Gorillas have a few special adaptations such as they eat 200 types of leaves, tubers, flowers, fruit, fungus and some insects. They have a daily routine. At 6am-8am, they wake-up. At 8am-10am, they eat. At 10am-2pm, they eat, play, relax, and sleep. At 2pm-5pm, they travel 300-6,000 feet and hunting on the way. At 5pm-6pm, they build a nest for them to sleep in. At 6pm-6am, they sleep. A gorilla’s predators are humans, leopards, and crocodiles. When a gorilla is ready to defend itself and their family from hunters, they stand up and beat on their chest. Gorillas can make 25 different sounds. Different groups of gorillas try to stay away from each other. When they get near each other, they fight. To frighten the other gorilla away, the opponent stands up high to appear larger, beats on his chest, roars, waves his arms, tears branches and charges into the other gorilla.
Mountain gorillas are large, quiet, and shy animals that live in a few isolated mountain forests in Africa. They are in severe danger of extinction. These lovely animals are being endangered in many different ways. Together, they try to defend themselves from predators.

Question by Dэrэk Я, the East-Coаst Élitist:
When will routine infant circumcision (forced genital mutilation) be outlawed in this nation?
To the religious.
If god created us in his image, then the foreskin is apart of his image. Circumcision is an abhorrent mutilation of the perfection that is man.
To the nonreligious.
The foreskin evolved for a reason, and it’s there for a reason. A man should have a say on whether he wants it before you chop it off.
Take the quiz for yourself.
1. As regards pain, circumcision:
A. does not hurt.
B. Is excruciating for an infant as well as an adult. Tightening the circumcision clamp puts crushing pressure on a big area of sensitive skin.
2. The foreskin is:
A. a useless piece of skin
B. an integral part of the male sexual organ, containing most of the nerve endings of sexual pleasure.
3. During circumcision, the infant:
A. goes to sleep.
B. withdraws into a say of neurogenic shock (coma), due to sudden big pain.
4. With respect to functions, the foreskin:
A. has no function. It is “just a piece of skin.”
B. has at least three major functions:
1. protection of the glans penis, an internal organ.
2. coverage of the shaft of the elongated, erect penis.
3. provision of most of the nerves for sexual response
(the ridged bands on the inner lining of the foreskin).
5. With respect to cancer of the penis, circumcision:
A. prevents it.
B. has nothing to do with penile cancer.(American Cancer Society, 1989)
6. With respect to ethics, a physician who performs a circumcision:
A. is practicing reasonable medicine.
B. violates all seven Principles of the AMA Code of Ethics; violates a primary tenet of health care, First, Do No Harm; and violates the Golden Rule.
7. With respect to human rights, a physician who performs a circumcision:
A. is within his rights.
B. violates a basic human right, the right to an intact body. The infant has the right not to have normal body parts removed without his express consent. The physician has failed to obtain the informed consent of the mutilee. The physician is violating the Nuremberg Code of Ethics, which regulates experimentation on humans.
8. With respect to safety, circumcision is:
B. kills an unknown number of U.S. infants every year.
9. With respect to complications, circumcision has:
A. very few complications
B. a 100% complication rate – in every instance the loss of a useful organ. In addition, there are many unrecorded complications, including deaths. Health costs of circumcised boys 5x those of intact boys!
10. The loss of foreskin:
A. has no effect on later life.
B. contributes to inferior sexual relations, which leads to increased divorce rates, increased violence, increased exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, and contributes to impotence, especially after age 40.
