Question by hanz_bluejacket:
What is the ideal way to get your newborn sleep in her crib?
I try to put her down when she is awake but sleepy, and i try when she is sleeping, but five minutes later she starts crying until i pick her up. She really seems to want to sleep on or next to me, but i am so afraid i might roll over on her or push her off the bed. Please help!!

——————————————

Answer by Jayden 1/7/10
Try swaddling her, it will give her the feeling that you are holding her and sleep with her blanket or blankets because then she will not only feel like shes being held but she will smell you.

Answer by Army wife & Gabriel’s mommy
My son was in his basinett and in my bed for about 7 weeks. I wanted him to begin getting used to his crib because I did not feel safe with him sleeping with me and he was getting to huge for the basinett. So during the day for naps I would lay him in his crib when he was exhausted and he would not nap for long but he was able to get a tiny used to his crib. He was starting to sleep through the night until I put him in his crib and he would wake up a few times for the first 5 days or so. Thene he got used to being in there and sleeps great! He sleeps all night long in his bed. It just takes time to get them adjusted to it.. Just do not back track and bring her into your bed again because then you will have to begin all over! Good luck!

Answer by Jordon
Does your baby sleep in a moses basket? If she does then you could put the moses basket inside the crib and get her used to the surroundings and then exchange from the moses to the crib like that.
If she doesnt, shes comforted by your smell. Maybe theres something else that could get her to sleep? A song? soft lights? My friends baby adores a teddy thats belly lights up and plays a song. If that is a no go aswell, prehaps take the sheets from your babies crib, sleep with them for a few nights so not only does your baby get the feel, the sheets get your smell, then try putting her and the sheets in there.
The swaddling idea is good and can work.
Alternativley, try letting other people rock your baby to sleep in the day, or prehaps, as hard as this sounds, leave her to lay down in a rocker or a moses basket, crying and dont comfort her, i know its hard but you know she isnt harming herself, she isnt in pain or hungry she just wants attention, until she falls asleep. That way she will get used to not having you there to get her to sleep.

Question by ♥Lucky♥:
Getting infant to sleep in his crib ?
My 4 month old baby’s pediatrician recommended using a transitional object to get the baby to sleep in his crib. This is an object he will associate with sleep, which he will use to sooth himself back to sleep when he wakes up throughout the night.

Examples she gave are: a sound machine that the baby controls, a blanket, a stuffed animal, or a toy that lights up when touched.

What transitional objects have worked for you?

——————————————

Answer by Betsy
Are you saying you have been co-sleeping? If so this is what we are doing now even though our son is a bit older-14 months. We took the rails off one side of his crib (it’s the convertible type) and put it in between the wall and my side of the bed. He now is in his own bed most of the night but still has me close by which is what he is used to having. We LOVE co-sleeping and aren;t trying to stop it but have a new baby due in a few months and it just kind of “stretches” the bed space a bit for us.

——————————————

Question by bright eyes:
does anyone have any tips on getting a newborn to sleep in a crib?
when my daughter was born she would not sleep in a crib so the nurse put her into bed with me since then she will not sleep unless she is in bed with me but i am too nervous with her. my mom recommended to put her on her stomach but the nurse advised against it! can anyone give me any tips to get her to sleep in her crib?

——————————————

Answer by Noah’s Mommy & Marine Wife.
She might not like the crib because it’s a big, open, place for her right now. Try a bassinet if you have one, or a moses basket.

You can also try swaddling her and then putting her down in the crib if the other two options aren’t available for you. This will help her feel more secure.

I would not place her on her belly at this age. Research has shown that placing a baby on their back can help reduce SIDS until your baby can roll over consistently.

——————————————

Question by babygirl4us:
Getting infant to sleep in crib?
I am going to begin getting my 6 month old daughter to sleep in her own crib, instead of with me. How should I go about doing this tonight? Also, should she take her naps in there as well, right now she naps in her stroller during the day.

——————————————

Answer by me
Yes, she should. And get ready for a fight, literally. But in the long run it will be worth it. It could take a few nights of crying and hollering but leaving her and conditioning her to sleep in her own crib be will be the ideal decision you have made.

——————————————
