Question by luvmynwf:
7 week old infant going thru growth spurt?

Hi
I’ve read that at 6 weeks newborns tend to go thru a growth spurt. Well, my 7 week old is going thru something and I am wondering if it could be a growth spurt (or maybe not?). He has not had any of his naps during the day (maybe slept 15 mins here and there) , he seems hungry and cannot wait 3 hours to eat, crying and fussing so I feed him but then he only takes an ounce or so? Our schedule (such as it was) is absolutely gone and I have no idea anymore when he should feed next? He is not himself, really fussy and nothing consols him. We have tried burping him, changing positions and scenery. He is not usually like this. So, I know that 6 weeks usually marks a growth spurt but he is 7 weeks old (he was full term but only 5lbs 8oz at birth so I have always assumed he is a tiny behind).

Does this sound like a growth spurt? We will be going for a check up with our physician in 3 days so I will ask her too but I am interested in what other parents think?
thanks,
Marina

Answer by Samantha
Not all babies are the same, and they dont all go through growing spurts at the same time so It could very well be a growth spurt at 7 weeks old. Also- if your baby isnt following a schedule anymore, its normal. It’s very hard to get a baby on a schedule that young, it’s more like YOU go on their schedule.
Have you taken his temp.?? Take his temp, if he has one, call the pediatrician.
Sometime babies just cry. My son is a good baby and there was a time for a few days he just went nuts and cried and cried for no reason. He would only calm down when we ran the blow drier over him. Try weird stuff like this!!! A lot of times it works!!! Run a hair drier over them, turn on the vacuum…things like that.

Hope I helped!

Newborn sleeping problems.?

My beautiful three day old newborn baby is not sleeping in his mosses basket. As soon as he is in our arms he goes to sleep but put him in his mosses basket and he wont have any of it. I have tried swaddling, not swaddling, just leaving him, rocking him nd yet still nothing. One thing we have noticed is that he seems to like laying on his side which is how he layed when he was in me. How can i safely lay my newborn on his side in his mosses basket. Please help me, i am in need of some sleep.

Get one of those foam pillows, and bundle him up next to it where it presses against his back, holding him on his side.

could use some tips…?

okay, at the end of this month I am moving 5 hours away to be a fulltime nanny for my adorable baby nephew when his Mother goes back to work…I’ve cared for my nieces before and spent time with babies and love them so much..i just kinda wanna know what to anticipate and what I can do to be the ideal caretaker for him…I’ll be with him mostly from 7am-3 pm weekdays…should I anticipate him to be on a pretty regulary feeding/ napping schedule by this point? you should know he arrived about 7 weeks early and he will be 10 weeks old and just over 6 lbs..(YAY! he is over doubled in weight since born!) when I begin to care for him full time..any baby tips, Books, and adjustment changes to anticipate would be great…I want to do a great job for him and I love kids….THANKS!!!!!!!!~

he will not be on too much of a regular schedule yet. will probably still take 3 naps a day from 1-3 hours each. ( for the entire day ) the first nap will usually be between 1 and 2 hours after waking and i have noticed that is my son’s longest nap. keep burprags handy and my son loved mobiles at this age. also, anything to kick at. i would also take him for a stroll. he will begin seeing further away and pastels in 2 weeks so outside is fun. have fun and speak through everything.

HELP NEEDED FROM PARENTS THAT HAVE OR ARE CURRENTLY COSLEEPING WITH AN INFANT? http://birthpolicy.org/501/help-needed-from-parents-that-have-or-are-currently-cosleeping-with-an-infant/ http://birthpolicy.org/501/help-needed-from-parents-that-have-or-are-currently-cosleeping-with-an-infant/#comments Mon, 29 Nov 2010 19:13:01 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/501/help-needed-from-parents-that-have-or-are-currently-cosleeping-with-an-infant/ Question by MillerMyers:
HELP needed from parents that have or are currently cosleeping with an infant?

Our boy is 3 1/2 months old that is breastfed, has a stay-at-home mother and has slept in bed with us nightly since he was born. We are dealing with some attachment issues right now. We cannot get him to fall asleep on his own for his much needed naps during the day. This is making him more fussy and harder to deal with at times because he needs to be held to fall asleep. Sometimes he is so overtired that he will not sleep at all and just continues to wail. Even though we love sleeping with him, we do not want this to continue for much longer. Please offer any recommendations on how we can make this transition as smooth as possible and/or share your experiences. Also, any thoughts on the cry it out method. Thanks!
Chase’s Mommy and Daddy
We do not like the cry it out method. We are not even considering it as an option. Please try to stick with the first part of our question and give us any feedback pertaining to the main theme of the question. Thanks again!

Looking for specific kind of infant sleep sack.?

I’m looking to purchase an infant sleep bag/sack that is made of high thread count cotton in a adorable print. Everything seems to be out of stretchy fabric…I want it made out of the same fabric my bed sheets are made of. Does anyone know where I can purchase this? I do not feel like making one myself.

BABY SLEEP PROBLEMS? http://birthpolicy.org/488/baby-sleep-problems/ http://birthpolicy.org/488/baby-sleep-problems/#comments Wed, 24 Nov 2010 19:49:13 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/488/baby-sleep-problems/ Question by Jennifer M:
baby sleep problems?

I have an 11 week old baby. She all of a sudden will not take a nap during the day longer than 15 min. I know she is tired!! I lay her down and she is sound asleep. As soon as she hits the bed she is wide awake and crying! Other times I will put her in her crib and turn on her music she will fall asleep and then right away again she is up! What can I do to make this stop and she can get some rest again?

ALSO I HAVE NEVER HELD HER WHILE SHE SLEEPS OR SLEPT WITH HER. SO I DONT KNOW WHY THIS HAS STARTED?

——————————————

Answer by Deana S
Try getting her to sleep while being propped up. I put a pillow underneath my son’s mattress when he did that. Or I would let me sleep in his swing or bouncy seat.

I would check to see if she is in pain. Teeth maybe? Gas trouble?

If it persits, call a pediatrician.

BABY WITH A LOPSIDED HEAD? http://birthpolicy.org/471/baby-with-a-lopsided-head/ http://birthpolicy.org/471/baby-with-a-lopsided-head/#comments Mon, 15 Nov 2010 20:33:28 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/471/baby-with-a-lopsided-head/ Question by Sherry-Lynn:
baby with a lopsided head?

she is 7 mo. old now and since she was a newborn she has always preferred to look to the right when sleeping or relaxing. when you look at her, the left side of her head sticks out further. For the last 6 months we have tried using head positioners, using infant positions-turning her on her side tilting her to the left thinking she might just look that way, and even went as far and rigging up her mobile so it hangs down low on her left side. We have tried turning her swing when she watches her einstein movies so she is forced to look to the left and that only works for a few minutes then she occupies herself in other ways and gives up on the video. Her physician has checked her out numerous times and doesn’t feel there is any huge concern. DOES ANYONE ELSES BABY DO THIS?
