Question by MillerMyers:
HELP needed from parents that have or are currently cosleeping with an infant?

Our boy is 3 1/2 months old that is breastfed, has a stay-at-home mother and has slept in bed with us nightly since he was born. We are dealing with some attachment issues right now. We cannot get him to fall asleep on his own for his much needed naps during the day. This is making him more fussy and harder to deal with at times because he needs to be held to fall asleep. Sometimes he is so overtired that he will not sleep at all and just continues to wail. Even though we love sleeping with him, we do not want this to continue for much longer. Please offer any recommendations on how we can make this transition as smooth as possible and/or share your experiences. Also, any thoughts on the cry it out method. Thanks!

We do not like the cry it out method. We are not even considering it as an option. Please try to stick with the first part of our question and give us any feedback pertaining to the main theme of the question. Thanks again!

HOW DO YOU PUT YOUR COSLEEPING INFANT TO BED? http://birthpolicy.org/418/how-do-you-put-your-cosleeping-infant-to-bed/ http://birthpolicy.org/418/how-do-you-put-your-cosleeping-infant-to-bed/#comments Wed, 10 Nov 2010 18:49:52 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/418/how-do-you-put-your-cosleeping-infant-to-bed/ Question by puglover:
How do you put your CoSleeping Infant to Bed?

I have an 8 month old tiny girl has been sleeping with us since she was born. She started out sleeping in our Arms Reach Bassinet and when she would wake in the night she would come into bed to nurse and just stay asleep in our bed. When she was young she would nurse to sleep and then I would just move her to her bassinet until she woke in the night, then she stopped falling asleep while nursing at night so I would rock or bounce her to sleep. But now she has gotten more difficult to get to sleep. She wont fall asleep by rocking or bouncing or nursing. I dont know how to get her to sleep and since we aren’t going to do CIO or anything like that. What are some other recommendations that you use to get your LO to fall asleep?

Babies are difficult to put to bed around that age and there are hundreds of questions on here about approx 8-10 month olds and their bedtime miseries. They nurse/cuddle to sleep just fine until then — then sort of figure out that the world is interesting, I think, and fuss it up — but you just have to ride it out for a couple of months, and they will go back to being agreeable about being nursed to sleep.

I just lay on the bed with my daughter, holding her until she nodded off — occasionally Father did this if it was clear she was done with nursing for the evening.

How do you feel about cosleeping with an infant?

I’ve preferred cosleeping from day one with my infant even though my bf wouldnt grant it until she was 1 1/2 weeks. I hated jumping up in the middle of the night rushing to her crib just to see if she was breathing. SIDS has scared me to death, and I just feel more at ease with her lying next too me in bed vs in her crib. My bf doesnt live with me at the moment so its just me and her in my bed. I DONT put my comforter over her nor do I use a pillow. I take Everything except my sheet off of my bed. What are your views on cosleeping with an infant?

what if you roll on top of it during the night

Where do your cosleeping babies sleep during the day?

OUR 4.5 MONTH OLD BABY SLEEPS BETWEEN MY HUSBAND AND I AT NIGHT…(IT’S JUST SO MUCH EASIER WHEN YOU BREASTFEED) NAD SLEEPS DOWNSTAIRS ON OUR COUCH DURING THE DAY.

——————————————

Answer by C N
ok I wouldnt let my baby sleep on the couch!((she could roll off, or smush her face against the cushion!)

My baby is 2 months and naps in her swing or on a clean blanket on the floor. If she falls asleep on the bed I leave her and check on her each 30 min or so and leave the baby monitor on.

She sleeps in the bed but I sleep her beside me, not in between my husband and I and I have a side rail thing on the bed so she doesnt fall off.

QUESTION ABOUT INFANT COSLEEPING? http://birthpolicy.org/125/question-about-infant-cosleeping/ http://birthpolicy.org/125/question-about-infant-cosleeping/#comments Tue, 14 Sep 2010 16:13:11 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/125/question-about-infant-cosleeping/ Question by Brahbrah:
Question about infant cosleeping?

Our birthing center suggests co-sleeping for nursing infants. We probably will not do this, but we are still considering it. In the brochure we were given, the author went to great lengths to explain how co-sleeping helps both mom and baby sleep, but then says that no blankets or loose bedding of any kind can be on the bed.

I know that infants are not supposed to have blankets (just a fitted sheet), but how in the world are parents supposed to sleep without a top sheet or blankets of any kind?

Our baby is due in November, and we live in the north.

Answer by Lori
Your blanket is wrapped more around you and the baby needs to outside of it

Baby cosleeping?

so my 10-week old son will not sleep for longer than 3 hours at a stretch in his crib at night. he wakes up, feeds, goes back to bed. But if i put him in our bed, he will sleep for 5 hour stretch if not longer.. And he is able of sleeping 6 hours a night, he is done it before.. he just doesnt want to.. i dont mind him sleeping with me, but i do not get much sleep either way, he kicks and grunts all night!!! Has anyone had this problem ? how did you deal with it?

——————————————

Answer by Blunt Honesty
You keep him in his crib. Your comfort now will not be comfortable at all when he is 7 and will not stay in his bed at night.
