Question by LM222:
Help! My infant wont sleep??
My daughter is 7 weeks old and she sleeps maybe 8-9 hours per day/night including naps. She wont sleep till 11pm and wakes to eat each 3-4 hours and is wide awake at 6am. Naps are 10-15 mins long a few times throughout the day. She is constantly yawning and has large bags under her eyes. Sometimes she falls asleep in my arms when I am rocking her and breastfeeding but the second I put her down the crib she screams. Tonight she cried for hours!! She cried in the crib, the swing, in my arms, everywhere. She would fall asleep and then jerk herself back awake after a few mins. I felt like something else was wrong with her. I tried everything I could think of. I feel like a terrible mother. I just dont know what to do.

——————————————

Answer by sweetunderscore
Maybe she has colic? Im not sure. My baby girl is 9 weeks and still wakes each 3 hours to eat but she rarely cries.
I would talk to your Dr. and see what he thinks.

Answer by Crystal D
You are not a terrible mother. I went through the same thing with my 2 kids. It is normal..unfortunately there is usually nothing you can do about it. But if you are worried about it take her to a physician because she could be suffering from colic. Lots of luck!

Answer by xxjan_janxx
Please do not feel like you are a terrible mother. All moms have this problem with newborns. She also might be getting spoiled already by being held. My niece did the same thing when she was a baby, but it did not begin that early. I would talk with the baby’s physician about it. I am sure it’s nothing serious and I promise you are not a terrible mother. If you were you would not be posting on here trying to find an answer. Take care.

Question by bft72:
Anyone used a Silksac, a Grobag similar baby sleeping bags in US?
I have read a lot about Grobag, and really like its benefits. And when I searched in US, I found something similar, called silksac. http://www.silksation.com/products_babysleepingbag.html
Seems like the difference is it has silk filling while grobag has polyester filling. Anyone has experience with this product? Love to hear more about it before buying.

——————————————

Answer by proud mamma
Never used one nor heard of one, but I did go out and purchase a bunch of halo sleep sacks I never used. I guess it all depends on the climate where you live.

Answer by jdphoto
You can make this bag yourself, or a friend can make it. But being a seamstress, silk is very, very hot in the summer time. You cannot get any air at all. Baby’s are very warm blooded. If you keep your home cold alright, but make sure, baby not under that cover, remember no air can get through. If you notice at a wedding, all the bridesmaids arm pits are wet, why no air and boy do the sweat during the summer with those dresses. Be careful in what you buy!

Baby specialist (smile) experience is the ideal teacher.

Question by :
how old does my baby have to be until its safe to put her under a blanket instead of a sleeping bag?
My daughter is currently sleeping in a baby sleeping bag – I was wondering when I can put her in a bed make with a blanket etc in regards to safety & sids?

——————————————

Answer by Katerina
I would think it would be safe once she starts rolling around (5 or 6 months). At that point the risk of SIDS greatly reduces.

Answer by Haley’s Mommy<3
I’ve used a blanket with my baby since the day she was born, but I am assuming that if you are concerned about it, then you should test your baby’s skills. If he/she can move his/her head back and forth easily or even lift it and you are confident they have that part down pat, I’d state they can sleep with a blanket.

Answer by Ray
I have been putting blankets on my children since they came home. I always swaddled them so I had no issues with blankets. I get concerned when baby is more mobile . When they begin rolling over and crawling and such I get scared that they would roll onto their belly and put the blanket over their head or sleep with their face in the blanket. So I just take the blankets out and put a light sweater on baby over her pjs. I make sure the temp in the room is good and that she will not overheat or be too cold. I still use blankets at naptime since she is in the room with me during that time. Even then she doesn’t put her face in the blanket. But at night I am paranoid.

Question by :
Risks of giving an infant hydrocodone?
My son, 13 months, has severe abdominal inflammation (colitis) along with lots of pain. He hasn’t been sleeping at night and my family is just falling apart from lack of sleep. Even our poor four year old has bags under his eyes! The physician recommended we give him Tylenol 3/hydrocodone for the really bad nights, but I am worried that he will become an addict at 13 months. What are the real risks at this age? What would you do for your child?

——————————————

Answer by Kew92
if your dr prescribed it then it should be fine bc it will only be small dosages and it wouldnt be an each day thing.
If it was me tho i would give it benadryl for babies. its a liquid and its safe for a 13 month
good luck

Answer by Sunny
Your baby is not going to become an addict……
Your dr advised this because it will help your tiny one feel superior and get some sleep….. if your baby was going to become addicted your dr would not have advised this…

Answer by FotoGrL
The only really bad effect I would be concerned with is what poor effects tylenol has on the liver. The poor side effects are due to to high dosage and over extended use. I would see if motrin would be an good alternative.

——————————————
Last year was simple we had one of those sleeping bag like things for our carseat and our son did not need a jacket. He is ten months old now and I am looking for a WARM jacket. He can nearly walk so I do not want a full body suit or anything. What are some good brands for infant winter wear? Also I have heard you shouldn’t put them in their automobile seat with a jacket on but this doesn’t seem possible to me when getting in and out of the automobile a lot.
I have the bundle me already- that is what we used last winter. It was AWESOME but now he is in his huge boy automobile seat and needs a jacket for when we take him in and out of places. I am very sad we cannot use it anymore, believe me!

Question by Rumbly:
Nursery Bedding? Did anyone not purchase a set?
Just wondering, if anyone did not bother getting a nursery bedding set?

I’ve read so much info that the bumpers are bad and can cause sids?

I am getting a homemade crib quilt and then I figured I would just purchase the fitted sheet separate. Is there any other pieces I am missing? I know newborns do not even sleep under the covers and like to be swaddled. Also, I plan to use grobags (sleeping bags) for the baby (if they like them!)

Just curious what your thoughts are?

——————————————

Answer by Michelle
I did not purchase a set. I picked out some fabric out the store and my mother made the bed skirts and then I just got fitted sheets that matched.

Answer by lillilou
Sounds like grobags are the same thing as halo sleep sacks – and we LOVED them (after swaddling of course). We didnt purchase a set either. We have a quilt hanging on a quilt rac – even though now think its kind of a waste. Plus I really liked the flannelly sheets better, they were so much softer.

Answer by Candace C
I used bumper pads without any problems. My sister uses a sleeping wedge. It keeps the baby at the right angle to help prevent SIDS. I also kept my two in bassinet until they were to huge for them. That way I could just move the bassinet to whatever room I was in at the time.

——————————————

Question by Serry’s mum:
Did /do /will u use a cot bumper?
I have asked this question elsewhere but would like more input please. This is my first baby and im getting used to all the stuff u are supposed to nedd with a newborn. I was going to make my own cotbumper, but whilst researching it, i have read that they are hazardous and should not be used with a newborn? So any experienced mums wanna tell me their experiences/thoughts on this? what should i use to keep new baby warm when sleeping? Blankets? Sleeping bags? Its all so confusing

——————————————

Answer by Jennifer H
we had a bumper pad on our daughters crib and nothing ever happened with her. Its up to you what you want to do though

Answer by Danielle
i would just state wrap the baby in a blanket since newborns do not toss and turn she wont get unwrapped

good luck
with you and your baby

Answer by greeneyes75
I put my baby in loose “onesies” that have a drawstring or snap bottom instead of legs. That way she stayed warm without needing a lot of blankets, which are a smothering hazard.

——————————————

Question by Paulette:
dreampod type sleeping bag/growbag for infants for baby to sleep in to assimilate still being in mom’s womb?

——————————————

Answer by C J
What is your question exactly? I have heard of some sleep sacks that are used to simulate sleeping in the womb, but most of those things are just a waste of money in my opinion.

Clarify your question so we can be more helpful.

Answer by Chantelle
I think I know what you mean- something like the swaddle me wrap-

http://www.nanny-annie-baby-furniture.com/kiddopotamus_swaddle.php

These are great- especially as baby gets larger and you cannot swaddle him in a normal wrap anymore. My 3.5month old baby is currently sleeping in one. We double wrap him using one of these and a normal wrap. Our choice of swaddle wrap is the Aden and Anais wraps:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_baby-products?_encoding=UTF8&node=165796011&field-brandtextbin=Aden%20%2B%20Anais

These are larger than other brands and superior to swaddle in.
I also recently ordered a different brand: The ergo cocoon.

http://www.amazon.com/ErgoPouch-Cocoon-Swaddling-Blanket-Sleeping/dp/B004VO5DIA/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1308300326&sr=1-1

This hasn’t arrived yet but it looks good. The only problem with the swaddleme wraps is that I find my son can get his arms out of them, even out under the flap. Hopefully, as these cocoons are done up differently, they will solve this problem. I also ordered one that converts from the wrap to a sleepingbag when the baby is ready by the same brand. I hope this was what you were looking for.
