Question by torontomama007:
Is it safe to put a baby automobile seat in a Jeep TJ?
Hello eveyone! I am just wondering if anybody can help me out. I am currently 5 months pregnant and I am anticipating my baby in July. I have a 1997 Jeep TJ and was wondering if anyone knows it is a safe automobile to drive with a small rear facing infant automobile seat? The reason I ask is that the back seat of a Jeep Wrangler is a tiny more narrow then that of a car, also the back seats sit so high up that there is no metal protecting the baby since the window starts right about where the seat is… Anyways if someone knows anything about this or knows where I could find the info I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
I woulnd’t take the roof off, and I have a fiber glass hard top on it right now.

——————————————

Answer by gnomesnymph
i wouldnt recommend it.. just the lack of real enclosure makes me feel worried about any childs safety in those kinds of vehicles..

Answer by witchway915
i would bring this concern up to a pediatrician, they are the ones that would be superior able to answer it.

but honestly if you do not feel it would be safe, then you shouldn’t. i would not go anywhere if you did put the baby in it without the top on, because that could be way too much wind on a baby

Answer by titan
Congratulations! You will have to look at those new Wranglers with four doors soon In the mean time there is no reason to state the TJ is any less safe than most other cars for your infant. It’s certainly not *unsafe* at any rate.

The superior reason to look for another automobile is a minivan or taller four door car/suv offer superior access to the rear seat and more cargo room for all the strollers, diaper bags, etc. Also being a two door you might find it a bit of a strain loading/unloading your child through the front doors. The huge advantage is your TJ is higher than most cars so you just move the baby in and out-you do not need to bend over much, something you will miss if you switch to a regular car.

——————————————

Answer by jennalu
invest in a seat that can accommodate a newborn to a child of 80 lbs. seek advice from the pros at the local fire department or ambulance service is safety is important to you.

Answer by hot mama
that’s about when my son converted to his upright automobile seat. we have an Evenflo Titan Elite Convertible Automobile Seat, it has been so perfect to us. we got it from Babies R Us, here is a link for you http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3012739

Answer by adrian♥
Well, they cannot be switched to a forward facing seat until they are at least 12 months so you have got a ways to go.

My daughter has a Britax marathon seat. We are very impressed with it. We also have a spare seat that we use that is a Graco comfortsport that we like alot. It’s been very durable.

Answer by Huge Mama
evenflo is the ideal brand for automobile seats (that is all i will ever have my tiny ones in) and for baby montiors all i kown is there is one newer one out that is to not let you get any bleeding in on you end all you are to hear is your tiny one but i have always got the cheap ones from wal-mart they work just as good as any others

Answer by JW
I LOVE the Graco Snugride, and I know many people that have it. I got mine at www.elitecarsears.com with no tax and free shipping.

If you live in an apartment or an area that is very populated you should get a baby monitor with a lot of channels. We live in a very congested area and use the Sony 27 channel monitor. It works great with no interference and has a voice activation option that helps conserve energy. We got ours at Babies R Us.

Answer by akelaamy
There are a lot of really good ones out there. I would make sure the monitor is al least a 900 megahertz or superior with two receivers. As for the automobile seat – make sure it fits in your car before you make your final choice. I like the ones with the base, but there are many great ones out there. You can sometimes ask your insurance company or the Police if they have a crash ratings on the ones you are thinking of.

Answer by Christina Osborne
Roll a blanket up and pull the carseat further down to recline more…the blanket can catch her head

Answer by pol6ca
There’s a padded horseshoe shaped pillow that supports the head

Answer by Proud Parents
my 6 mopnth old daughter does the same thing i just roll up a blanet and wedge it between her head and her chest and it works pretty well , good luck

Question by Mamawifey:
Do all automobiles have the latch in the middle of the back seat for the babies automobile seat?
We have a new 2010 ford focus sedan and my husband installed our babies automobile seat behind the drivers seat because he stated there is no latch in the middle… is this normal? Is there a way to combine the two latches from the two side seats to make it be in the middle? Like is there an attachment you can get? I really do not like having his automobile seat behind the drivers seat incase of an accident etc plus I’d have to sit in the middle when I sit in the back with him… Just wondering if this ir normal or not.. and is there any danger in having a automobile seat not in the middle of the back seat?
There is latches, two on each side of the back seat but there is not one in the middle where we want to put the automobile seat…..

Answer by ♫♪Bag♫♪ Mummy to ♥three pooks♥
We have never had our baby in the middle as we would not be able to get them in safely over the older ones.

I seem to remember hearing that the passenger side back seat is the safest place to be.

Question by Heather R & Michael R:
Is it legal to have a rear facing carseat for a newborn in a Ford F150 Truck seeing it only hast the one seat?
I have a Ford F150 Truck and was wondering if it was legal in the sate of michigan to have a newborn automobile seat in the truck or if i would have to get another automobile with a back seat.

——————————————

Answer by just a thought…
Forget whether it is legal, it is not SAFE. You should get another car. Sorry.

http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm

“Never place a rear-facing automobile safety seat in the front seat of a automobile that has a front passenger air bag. If the air bag inflates, it will hit the back of the automobile safety seat, right where your baby’s head is, and could cause serious injury or death.”

http://pregnancyandbaby.com/pregnancy/baby/Too-many-parents-still-placing-children-in-front-seat-1180.htm

“…it is vitally important that all parents secure their children in the back seat. The back is always the safest place for children to ride”

Answer by mother of 2
no i belive if its the only seat available physically then as long as you have it rear facing for a newborn its legal, and when baby is larger still needs to be in carseat!!

Answer by blondie
it has to be in the back seat, sorry…

——————————————

Question by Amy-Eden’s mom:
Should I purchase the Snugride 32 or Snugride 35 infant automobile seat?
If you read my last question,I am having to purchase a automobile seat for my 3 month old,13 lbs daughter.I have decided to get an infant seat for her.I know that the obvious choice would be the Snugride 35,but will she really stay in it for that long? How old will she be around that weight? We are wanting to try again in about 3 months,so we will need the seat for the new baby,so would she be closer to 32 lbs?
I have already decided to just get another infant seat.We are wanting another baby soon,so we would be buying another infant seat either way.

——————————————

Answer by Phinny
At this point, I would strongly advocate against buying another infant seat. It would be a waste to purchase a seat she will only fit for a tiny bit. Unless you plan on using the new infant seat for the new baby, then buying a larger seat for your daughter.

There are some very good convertible seats that fit from newborn(5lbs) all the way up to 50+ pounds. They begin off rear facing, then switch to front when your baby is a year old.

If you like to stay with the Graco brand, check out the My Ride 65 or the ComfortSport.

As for your concerns about what to do with her in restaurants and such, you can always purchase a portable high chair for infants, or keep the infant seat you already have in the trunk and get it out at the store/restaurant for her to sit in inside.

Answer by Courage
Your daughter is in the 75% for weight from the growth charts. According to these charts, she will not be 3 years old before she is 35lbs. She will hit 32lbs right before she turns 3. So either will last you easily for this first year. However, I do not know of many babies who are comfortable in an infant seat past about 6-9 months old (when they begin sitting up on their own they want to sit up more.) Infant seats are good because they are molded to the baby’s body. If you plan on switching her to a convertible when she is old enough and using the automobile seat for the next baby, then I would advocate going with the Graco 35 because tiny boys grow faster (and who knows whether you will get a moose or a mouse…)

I selected the Graco 35 for my baby boy (born June 3rd…) because I liked the dial that grants you to control the tilt. Since tilting the automobile seat is SO important, and it’s safer to have that controlled like that than to have a rolled up towel or something under it, I liked that. Also it’s got good side-impact, and the hood is WONDERFUL! Literally, I pull it down and it covers him from head to toe right now, so the sun doesn’t touch him at all. I do not know if the Graco 32 has that or not. Since I knew I was having a boy, and boys tend to grow faster than girls, I wanted to be sure that the automobile seat would not be outgrown before he could sit up.

Answer by John
A Part from infant seat you can get the baby furniture that can be adjusted in car.. garden and in home as well.. you can purchase the nursery furniture as there is no fear of baby dropping down in the car.. you can take help from the website link given below.

Answer by LuVmYaNgeL
im happy withh safety 1st i have everything of that brand

Answer by Wyatt’s Mommy
if you want good and inexpensive… i’d TOTALLY go for a travel system, that way you get the infat (rear facing) automobile seat and a stroller that you can use for a while. I just went on the web and look at stores like Target, Babies r us etc. they have pretty good stuff for fair prices.

Question by pirouette_130:
What to buy baby/register for?
I need help knowing about the details that are actually needed for my first baby. Crib, automobile seat etc are obvious I am speaking about the other things. I want to know what tips you have that worked for you and what I really can live without that a lot of us do not know about our first time and waste $ on it. My personal situation: that I am breasfeeding, I am having a boy, I am due in february, I have a tight budget, and i do not think I will inherit a lot of things or get a lot of things for my baby shower for a few reasons. So anything about wardrobe, random bed/bath/care materials, I really do not know except I need advice about the tiny things, like how many of “x” thing to buy, what to wait on, or what to skip. I will ask friends I know as well, but I want to know here too. Thanks!

——————————————

Answer by MeikMeik
First off, do not get too many newborn outfits. Babies grow fast. I would get about 3-4 receiving blankets, unless you do not plan on buying burp clothes, then get 6-8. Onesies, you need about 6. some sleepers, etc. Do not get carried away on outfits. You do not really need to worry about a high chair, or bibs to start with. You do not need to buy a crib set. Just get some fitted sheets, as studies have shown that babies can get caught in the crib liners, and heavy blankets. Get pajamas with footies in them so you can just use a light blanket. (receiving blanket) Get 1-2 pairs of mittens so they do not scratch their face, get about 4-5 pairs of socks. You do not need a whole lot, especially if you have access to a washing machine. Other then that, you can get a few outfits if you want, that are cute. I too am on a tight budget, so I have limited myself this pregnancy.

Hope this helps, and congrats!

Answer by *j-LyNn*
DIAPERS (of course!!)
Baby swing
Highchair
Bouncer
Diaper bag
onesizes
socks
sleepers
bottles (for someone to feed your baby when you have to go somewhere)
breast pump
nursing pads
bath tub
washcloths
towels
pacifiers (if you select to use them)
baby sling/front carrier
recieving blankets/swaddler blanket
Thermometer (oral and anal…best to check a newborns temp anally)
Infant Tylenol

Good luck!!

Answer by Michelle G
If I could recommend anything to you at all, it would be those tiny pj’s that have the draw strings at the bottoms. This is for when you bring baby home, and for the first few months. When baby is up each 2-4 hours for a feeding and diaper change, and it’s in the middle of the night and you are exhausted, these things are a GEM! Simple access to changing baby! I would also recommend that you have many burp rags on hand, and several blankets. You will be amazed at how much laundry you go through. My son had an acid reflux problem and puked all the time (I hope this doesn’t happen to you), so I went through tons of blankets and tons of clothes and burp rags cleaning him up. I would not waste my money buying the bottle warmers or the diaper wipes warmer. I think they are dangerous! I would invest in a battery charger and chargeable batteries. Each thing takes them! Good Luck to you, and Congrats!
