Well i was just looking at us consumer product safety commission and was looking at the baby recalls and about half way through i came across my sons swing…http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07197.html

2 days ago he discovered that he could lean over the side of it and got stuck and this day when i was feeding him in it he kept leaning forward and i kept having to push him back and it was pretty hazardous and i would never leave him unattended in it the only thing i have used it for since he got stuck was for his feedings because we do not have a highchair and i just ordered one and it should be here by tomorrow but in the mean time i am using the swing only for feedings…he is 6 months old and i know he has now out grown it but do you think i should call and try to see if i can get my money back…by the way if you look at the link it states “Sold at: Discount department stores and toy stores nationwide from November 2006 to Might 2007 for about $ 65.” and i purchased it December 2008 should i try or leave it alone?

——————————————

Answer by Mr And Mrs Diaz
I had 2 things that were recalled. My Simplicity Bassinet and my Crib,I just called Simplicity and they sent me a check for both items I had,

Your sons swing might not have been recalled,I know when my stuff was recalled they had to match the numbers with the dates that they were manufactured I mean the only way you will know for certainty is if you call Fisher Price.

Answer by ashleighharder
check your serial # if it matches one that is on the list contact fisher-price, companies will compensate you with either a new swing, gift card, ect.

Answer by Callypso
It never hurts to try. And if it’s hazardous and you cannot use it anyway, I’d sure want my money back!

Question by torontomama007:
Is it safe to put a baby automobile seat in a Jeep TJ?
Hello eveyone! I am just wondering if anybody can help me out. I am currently 5 months pregnant and I am anticipating my baby in July. I have a 1997 Jeep TJ and was wondering if anyone knows it is a safe automobile to drive with a small rear facing infant automobile seat? The reason I ask is that the back seat of a Jeep Wrangler is a tiny more narrow then that of a car, also the back seats sit so high up that there is no metal protecting the baby since the window starts right about where the seat is… Anyways if someone knows anything about this or knows where I could find the info I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
I woulnd’t take the roof off, and I have a fiber glass hard top on it right now.

——————————————

Answer by gnomesnymph
i wouldnt recommend it.. just the lack of real enclosure makes me feel worried about any childs safety in those kinds of vehicles..

Answer by witchway915
i would bring this concern up to a pediatrician, they are the ones that would be superior able to answer it.

but honestly if you do not feel it would be safe, then you shouldn’t. i would not go anywhere if you did put the baby in it without the top on, because that could be way too much wind on a baby

Answer by titan
Congratulations! You will have to look at those new Wranglers with four doors soon In the mean time there is no reason to state the TJ is any less safe than most other cars for your infant. It’s certainly not *unsafe* at any rate.

The superior reason to look for another automobile is a minivan or taller four door car/suv offer superior access to the rear seat and more cargo room for all the strollers, diaper bags, etc. Also being a two door you might find it a bit of a strain loading/unloading your child through the front doors. The huge advantage is your TJ is higher than most cars so you just move the baby in and out-you do not need to bend over much, something you will miss if you switch to a regular car.

——————————————

Question by Me & Me:
Am I missing anything?
I’m nine weeks pregnant, and I already went shopping for baby stuff, in yellow because I do not know the sex. Is there anything you can think of that I could be missing? I am not going to shop for clothes until I know the sex, though.

What I have bought:
Size 1 Pampers
Cherry wood crib that forms into a daybed, then toddler bed
Mattress
6 – 5 oz. baby bottles and extra nipples
Stage one toys and movies
Baby books
Infant automobile seat
Stroller
Changing Station
Baby hangers
Dresser
High Chair
Bouncer
Crib sheets and blankets
Reciving Blankets
Nursery Decor
Stuffed animals
Infant swing
Bibs
Burp-up Towels
Bottle scrub brush
Einstein Play Gym
Baby Moniter
Breast Pump and supplies
Safety gates
Safety Cabinet locks
Electric socket covers
Doctor recommended Medicines
Bathing Materials
Grooming Materials
Baby bath seat
Glider
Okay so I need a Bumbo seat, a Jumperoo, Newborn diapers, larger bottles, a Boppy, a CD player and classical music and bible bedtime stories! Anything else?
Oh, Vaseline! Great idea!
I am planning to breastfeed, but I have to have bottles for when I go out to feed it with pumped breast milk.

——————————————

Answer by i love my lil gumnut harrison
nope u’ve got it all but you probably want to wait buying all this stuff just till u finish ur first trimester

Answer by LC
Why would you purchase all that on your own? You should of had a shower….

Answer by ♥Lucky♥ 2nd Bun in the Oven
You are adorable. I can tell you will be an astonishing mother. The only other things I can think of that came in useful were the Bumbo seat and the mobile for the crib. You might also want some CDs and a CD player for the nursery. Ideal wishes

Answer by jennalu
invest in a seat that can accommodate a newborn to a child of 80 lbs. seek advice from the pros at the local fire department or ambulance service is safety is important to you.

Answer by hot mama
that’s about when my son converted to his upright automobile seat. we have an Evenflo Titan Elite Convertible Automobile Seat, it has been so perfect to us. we got it from Babies R Us, here is a link for you http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3012739

Answer by adrian♥
Well, they cannot be switched to a forward facing seat until they are at least 12 months so you have got a ways to go.

My daughter has a Britax marathon seat. We are very impressed with it. We also have a spare seat that we use that is a Graco comfortsport that we like alot. It’s been very durable.

Question by I_am_pure_energy:
Can Kids Become Proactive in their own Safety??
I’m always looking for ways to make my children’s life safer, but with more than half the products I have in my home that says, “Keep out of reach of Kids it’s hard to keep them safe. I have all the safety gadgets but they get into everything. I was reading a parent magazine and read a write-up called “Mr. No-No Saves Children’s Lives”. Read your kids the book then put stickers of Mr. No-No on things you do not want your kids to touch. It states they did a case study on infants to preteens and they documented a one-year-old baby would not touch anything Mr. No-No was on including his stuffed bear. So I went on line, I noticed there are a couple other safety characters, but they are stupid. Looks like allot of time and effort went into Mr. No-No. Some characters were just outright pathetic. Would it be easier for kids to learn to stay away from Mr. No-No or just try to keep teaching them all places & things not to touch? Check it out www.mrnono.com let me know what you think.

——————————————

Answer by thecauzz
I think the idea of Mr NoNo has its merrits. I remember a day when my daughter had come home from daycare aged 4 with a bunch of stickers issued by our electricity company. Each sticker stated something easy about safety around electricity. My daughter took it upon herself to put these stickers above each powerpoint she could reac to remind us all!

If you do use the Mr NoNo idea I would recommend letting your kids tell you what things they think might be a danger and let them help you place the stickers, and while doing so explain why that particular thing is a danger.

Answer by superyduperymommy
i think, if kids become proactive in thier own safety, that the outcome can only be great, even if the characters and stickers are stupid. nothing is more important than a childs safety! pretty weird how they will go by what a sticker says, and not listen to thier parents. if it works, its great!

Answer by Kathy S
For my household I have Mr. Yuck Stickers on the things that are poisionous, and the other thing I did with my children, is cut out massive red T’s and put them on things that they should not be touching. I explained to them (at that time they were 3 and 1) that the T means NO TOUCH. If you continue to follow through with this it does work very well.

Good Luck
Kathy

——————————————

Answer by Huge Mama
evenflo is the ideal brand for automobile seats (that is all i will ever have my tiny ones in) and for baby montiors all i kown is there is one newer one out that is to not let you get any bleeding in on you end all you are to hear is your tiny one but i have always got the cheap ones from wal-mart they work just as good as any others

Answer by JW
I LOVE the Graco Snugride, and I know many people that have it. I got mine at www.elitecarsears.com with no tax and free shipping.

If you live in an apartment or an area that is very populated you should get a baby monitor with a lot of channels. We live in a very congested area and use the Sony 27 channel monitor. It works great with no interference and has a voice activation option that helps conserve energy. We got ours at Babies R Us.

Answer by akelaamy
There are a lot of really good ones out there. I would make sure the monitor is al least a 900 megahertz or superior with two receivers. As for the automobile seat – make sure it fits in your car before you make your final choice. I like the ones with the base, but there are many great ones out there. You can sometimes ask your insurance company or the Police if they have a crash ratings on the ones you are thinking of.

I have two young kids that are close enough in age to share toys. I’m worried about them also sharing germs. My eldest has a cold, and I want to keep Sara from catching it. Is there a disinfectant wipe or a spray that’s safe to use on toys, highchairs, etc.? I’m worried that the chemicals in a spray will be worse than the germs.

Answer by Tina
Put them in the dishwasher.

Answer by LeeLee
You can use a tablespoon of clorox with 8 oz of water

Answer by PopeJewish
there are antibacterial wipes, you could also use soap and water, or that pure hand soap stuff that is alcohol based and evaporates after a couple seconds.

Question by ღ My baby girl is nearly 2! ღ:
Is it true that “all automobile seats are the same” …?
My aunt has a 2 1/2 year old and this day she purchased her a new automobile seat. The least affordable one that Graco makes from Wal-Mart. I am 7 months pregnant and on my registry I have a travel system with the infant automobile seat and then a convertible automobile seat – Alpha Omega Elite. I have done a lot of research and they get pretty much equivalent ratings as the Britax automobile seats, but I just like this one better. Anyway, she told me not to spend that much money on a automobile seat because “all automobile seats are the same”. I know that they all have certain safety measures that they have to meet, but there are some with extra features. I brought it to her attention that yes I might pay $ 180 for a convertible automobile seat, but I will not have to purchase a new one, unless God forbid I am in a wreck or something, where as she purchases automobile seats as my cousin grows. So really she has spent as much money upgrading automobile seats as I plan to, if I do not get it for my baby shower, on one automobile seat for my daughter, that will fit her up to 100lbs! I would just like opinions… Am I wrong? Are all automobile seats the same? I know that when I read reviews and product info, they do not all offer the same features.

——————————————

Answer by Cari J
You’re right, end of story

Answer by malwilhist
They do not get equivalent ratings, that is BS. They are not all the same. They do not offer the same features and they are not crash tested at the same speeds. The industry minimum speed of crash testing is 30 mph. That is where Evenflo, Graco, Cosco, Safety 1st, and Baby Trend crash test their seats. At 35 mph in a study done in Chicago, the seats actually shattered on impact, leaving the baby and/or toddler ejected from the automobile still in the harness, but not in the frame of the seat. Britax, Combi, Peg Perego, Sunshine Kids, and Recaro are tested at higher speeds. Britax seats have a stainless steel frame coated with plastic, side impact protection foam, and then the padding. Graco, Evenflo, Safety 1st, and Cosco only use plastic for their frames.

The Alpha Omega Elite is a crappy seat. It doesn’t really hold your child to the weight and height limits of the seat due to poor design, and the straps twist and are slippery which reduces their effectiveness in a crash. You are much superior off with a Britax Marathon or Decathalon which will last you longer in a 5 pt harness and are safer as a whole.

EDIT: You want a seat that has a high weight limit while IN a 5 pt harness. The Alpha Omega Elite only harnesses to 40 lbs, and it’s a booster after that. The booster doesn’t position the belt well.

EDIT: All seats meet the same MINIMUM. Some brands meet that minimum, while others exceed it. I’d like to think I am putting my child in the seat that has tested superior at MAXIMUM speeds and number of tests. The fact of the matter is that the government is not testing the seats–the companies are. They test at a speed of 30 mph at a frontal impact crash. That is it! That is how seats are required by law to be tested.

Some companies go above and beyond that stipulation and test them at higher speeds and different types of crashes. Those companies include Britax, Peg Perego, Maxi Cosi, Sunshine Kids, and Recaro. Britax, Recaro, and Sunshine Children also test their seats in different positions in the car AND use different sized dummies in the tests to represent your growing child. They test at 45 mph as a minimum and they do frontal, side, and rear impacts.

Some companies test their seats at the bare minimum– 30 mph, with 1 dummy at the seat’s medium weight stipulation in a front end crash. Those companies are Evenflo, Safety 1st, Cosco Juvenile Group (the makers of the Alpha Omega Elite), BabyTrend, and Graco.

There is CLEARLY a large difference. The problem is that many people aren’t informed and select to rely on the box and the price to determine which seat is best.

Answer by MEKA – SHA
MOST OF THEM DO THE SAME THING BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU FEEL YOUR BABY WILL BE SAFE IN. BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOUR BABY IS IN WHEN HE OR SHE IS IN THE CAR

——————————————

Answer by Christina Osborne
Roll a blanket up and pull the carseat further down to recline more…the blanket can catch her head
