Well i was just looking at us consumer product safety commission and was looking at the baby recalls and about half way through i came across my sons swing…http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07197.html

2 days ago he discovered that he could lean over the side of it and got stuck and this day when i was feeding him in it he kept leaning forward and i kept having to push him back and it was pretty hazardous and i would never leave him unattended in it the only thing i have used it for since he got stuck was for his feedings because we do not have a highchair and i just ordered one and it should be here by tomorrow but in the mean time i am using the swing only for feedings…he is 6 months old and i know he has now out grown it but do you think i should call and try to see if i can get my money back…by the way if you look at the link it states “Sold at: Discount department stores and toy stores nationwide from November 2006 to Might 2007 for about $ 65.” and i purchased it December 2008 should i try or leave it alone?

Answer by Mr And Mrs Diaz
I had 2 things that were recalled. My Simplicity Bassinet and my Crib,I just called Simplicity and they sent me a check for both items I had,

Your sons swing might not have been recalled,I know when my stuff was recalled they had to match the numbers with the dates that they were manufactured I mean the only way you will know for certainty is if you call Fisher Price.

Answer by ashleighharder
check your serial # if it matches one that is on the list contact fisher-price, companies will compensate you with either a new swing, gift card, ect.

Answer by Callypso
It never hurts to try. And if it’s hazardous and you cannot use it anyway, I’d sure want my money back!

Question by I_am_pure_energy:
Can Kids Become Proactive in their own Safety??
I’m always looking for ways to make my children’s life safer, but with more than half the products I have in my home that says, “Keep out of reach of Kids it’s hard to keep them safe. I have all the safety gadgets but they get into everything. I was reading a parent magazine and read a write-up called “Mr. No-No Saves Children’s Lives”. Read your kids the book then put stickers of Mr. No-No on things you do not want your kids to touch. It states they did a case study on infants to preteens and they documented a one-year-old baby would not touch anything Mr. No-No was on including his stuffed bear. So I went on line, I noticed there are a couple other safety characters, but they are stupid. Looks like allot of time and effort went into Mr. No-No. Some characters were just outright pathetic. Would it be easier for kids to learn to stay away from Mr. No-No or just try to keep teaching them all places & things not to touch? Check it out www.mrnono.com let me know what you think.

——————————————

Answer by thecauzz
I think the idea of Mr NoNo has its merrits. I remember a day when my daughter had come home from daycare aged 4 with a bunch of stickers issued by our electricity company. Each sticker stated something easy about safety around electricity. My daughter took it upon herself to put these stickers above each powerpoint she could reac to remind us all!

If you do use the Mr NoNo idea I would recommend letting your kids tell you what things they think might be a danger and let them help you place the stickers, and while doing so explain why that particular thing is a danger.

Answer by superyduperymommy
i think, if kids become proactive in thier own safety, that the outcome can only be great, even if the characters and stickers are stupid. nothing is more important than a childs safety! pretty weird how they will go by what a sticker says, and not listen to thier parents. if it works, its great!

Answer by Kathy S
For my household I have Mr. Yuck Stickers on the things that are poisionous, and the other thing I did with my children, is cut out massive red T’s and put them on things that they should not be touching. I explained to them (at that time they were 3 and 1) that the T means NO TOUCH. If you continue to follow through with this it does work very well.

Good Luck
Kathy

Question by ღ My baby girl is nearly 2! ღ:
Is it true that “all automobile seats are the same” …?
My aunt has a 2 1/2 year old and this day she purchased her a new automobile seat. The least affordable one that Graco makes from Wal-Mart. I am 7 months pregnant and on my registry I have a travel system with the infant automobile seat and then a convertible automobile seat – Alpha Omega Elite. I have done a lot of research and they get pretty much equivalent ratings as the Britax automobile seats, but I just like this one better. Anyway, she told me not to spend that much money on a automobile seat because “all automobile seats are the same”. I know that they all have certain safety measures that they have to meet, but there are some with extra features. I brought it to her attention that yes I might pay $ 180 for a convertible automobile seat, but I will not have to purchase a new one, unless God forbid I am in a wreck or something, where as she purchases automobile seats as my cousin grows. So really she has spent as much money upgrading automobile seats as I plan to, if I do not get it for my baby shower, on one automobile seat for my daughter, that will fit her up to 100lbs! I would just like opinions… Am I wrong? Are all automobile seats the same? I know that when I read reviews and product info, they do not all offer the same features.

——————————————

Answer by Cari J
You’re right, end of story

Answer by malwilhist
They do not get equivalent ratings, that is BS. They are not all the same. They do not offer the same features and they are not crash tested at the same speeds. The industry minimum speed of crash testing is 30 mph. That is where Evenflo, Graco, Cosco, Safety 1st, and Baby Trend crash test their seats. At 35 mph in a study done in Chicago, the seats actually shattered on impact, leaving the baby and/or toddler ejected from the automobile still in the harness, but not in the frame of the seat. Britax, Combi, Peg Perego, Sunshine Kids, and Recaro are tested at higher speeds. Britax seats have a stainless steel frame coated with plastic, side impact protection foam, and then the padding. Graco, Evenflo, Safety 1st, and Cosco only use plastic for their frames.

The Alpha Omega Elite is a crappy seat. It doesn’t really hold your child to the weight and height limits of the seat due to poor design, and the straps twist and are slippery which reduces their effectiveness in a crash. You are much superior off with a Britax Marathon or Decathalon which will last you longer in a 5 pt harness and are safer as a whole.

EDIT: You want a seat that has a high weight limit while IN a 5 pt harness. The Alpha Omega Elite only harnesses to 40 lbs, and it’s a booster after that. The booster doesn’t position the belt well.

EDIT: All seats meet the same MINIMUM. Some brands meet that minimum, while others exceed it. I’d like to think I am putting my child in the seat that has tested superior at MAXIMUM speeds and number of tests. The fact of the matter is that the government is not testing the seats–the companies are. They test at a speed of 30 mph at a frontal impact crash. That is it! That is how seats are required by law to be tested.

Some companies go above and beyond that stipulation and test them at higher speeds and different types of crashes. Those companies include Britax, Peg Perego, Maxi Cosi, Sunshine Kids, and Recaro. Britax, Recaro, and Sunshine Children also test their seats in different positions in the car AND use different sized dummies in the tests to represent your growing child. They test at 45 mph as a minimum and they do frontal, side, and rear impacts.

Some companies test their seats at the bare minimum– 30 mph, with 1 dummy at the seat’s medium weight stipulation in a front end crash. Those companies are Evenflo, Safety 1st, Cosco Juvenile Group (the makers of the Alpha Omega Elite), BabyTrend, and Graco.

There is CLEARLY a large difference. The problem is that many people aren’t informed and select to rely on the box and the price to determine which seat is best.

Answer by MEKA – SHA
MOST OF THEM DO THE SAME THING BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU FEEL YOUR BABY WILL BE SAFE IN. BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOUR BABY IS IN WHEN HE OR SHE IS IN THE CAR

——————————————

Question by stephie691:
In need of a convertible automobile seat, but which one?
My dd is too long for her infant automobile seat, but is only 10 months old, so still needs to be rear facing. I have narrowed it to 2 possibilities for a convertible automobile seat but cannot decide between them. They are both safety 1st all in one convertible automobile seats but different styles. What are your thoughts? Here are links to both of them:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp… (that’s the oakwood one)
I do not want to spend anymore than $ 150 (including tax and shipping) I can get both of these at different sites for under this. If you have any superior recommendations feel free to tell me. I have an 2002 chevy cavalier.
Thanks!!

This is the one we use. We like it so far, and it’s good up to 100 pounds! It’s not under $ 150, but you can definitely find coupons for it, and since you will not have to purchase another automobile seat for the child, it’s worth it.

Answer by Nikki
Your links dont work…they just take you to the toys r us website..no specific automobile seat.

Question by Thifty Tiny Lady:
Baby food and formula question?
I found this this day on CNN. Does this concern you if you give your baby formula?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/09/15/china.formula/index.html

I do not formula feed, but I do use jarred baby foods and baby cereal as well.

Question: Do you worry about the safety/quality of such products when you hear these stories?

(This is not an attack on formula feeding, it is a question on the safety of commerical baby foods/milk. Let’s not begin arguements ladies)

——————————————

Answer by MoMmY to Brody
Well it looks like that was in China, so Im happy I am not in China right now.

Answer by dolly
Just goes to prove no one really knows what is going into the formula they are feeding their babies. The first three years are the most important for babies development, and nutrition should be a top priority! THAT is why I breastfeed.

Mommy to Brody- China ships that formula all over the world.

Answer by ~Britt~ #2 due 4/26/09
well, i heard that on the news the other night also… but they also stated that baby formula manufactured in china is illegal in the US. it would be very hard to get and would need to be specially ordered directly from china. i would not worry about it since the US has so many guidelines on formula.

Question by Jenn ♥Cadence Jade’s mum♥:
What baby product companies do you like?
Just curious what companies you like best…either like their products or find the company simple to deal with if you had any problems? I really like Evenflo stuff and I find both Playtex and Baby Einstein are great if you have a problem. Playtex replaced my leaky bottle nipples with no problems and Baby Einstein sent me a replacement top for my daughters mat when hers broke and I got it the next day! I however find Safety First is a pain…I requested info about a replacement canopy for my daughters stroller and its been over a week and I have not heard from them and I found the people at Huggies to be very rude. What companies do you like? Have you had any problems with companies?
Yeah Graco is pretty good too…I love their Pack N Play

——————————————

Answer by srobersonnc
Luckily I have not had to contact any companies with issues in my kiddo’s 2.5 years. I do like Graco products, and Playtex. Those are 2 brands I am pretty loyal to.

Answer by RB
I have not had a problem yet that I have had to deal with the company to fix but I do have some I like.
Evenflo-love their automobile seats and strollers
Playtex- ventaire bottles and their pacifiers
Nuk-bottles and pacifiers
Fisher Price- lamb cradle n swing and rainforest bouncer and kick n play piano
Arm’s Reach- co sleeper bassinet, love it!
Boppy- the pillow of course and I have a Boppy play yard that is great

I am looking a convertable carseats right now for the future and I am in love with Graco’s myride 65 convertible carseat.

Diaper wise- was not crazy about Huggies newborn diapers, but love the size 1 tiny snugglers, Luv’s are good and Target brand are good. pampers are okay too, but I have heard a lot about diaper rash with them.

Answer by made you look is due Oct 3rd
I like some of the ECO brands. I like Born Free, Britax, Earth’s Ideal (one of my favorites), Safety 1st Chicco, and some Graco. Toys wise I like wooden toys (my daughter does to) – Organic Beginnings is one of my favorites. I use Huggies Pure and Natural diapers and Earth’s Ideal diapers for my baby. I also love Medela – I have had no problems with them at all.

——————————————

Question by Shaelyn Camille is 1! (Katie):
Trying to decide between the britax boulevard and britax advocate!?
Which would be better? My tiny girl is 10 months now and will be out of her infant seat in about 2 lbs.I’m trying to decide between the two. What is the difference?Have any of you had one?

The boulevard

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3029005

The advocate

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3531108

I know they seem like a lot,but she will be in it for a long time, and you cannot put a price tag on safety!

——————————————

Answer by Mommylh
You have picked the ideal seats out there!!! And there is no price for safety, superior safe than sorry! I completely understand!

I personally have decided on the Boulevard, as the Suggest is pretty much the same except for the extra airbags on the side. The Boulevard will stand up in a side impact just as good as the suggest because the seat is steal reinforced.

What you need to do is take a look at the height and weight restrictions. I am guessing you are in the US because you linked to the US site. I will post the specs in a few min.

Here are the specs (www.britax.com)
Advocate Boulevard
5-65lbs 5-65lbs
49 inches (height) 49 inches
5-35lbs (rear-facing) 5-35lbs (rear-facing)

All the other specs are exactly the same, except for the extra cushioning at the head, and as I mentioned, the Boulevard has a steal re-inforced frame and has the “true side impact technology” so the seat is just as good in a crash as the Suggest will be. The suggest just has some extra cushioning, that you pay $ 100 more for. In reality, the Boulevard is just as good as a seat, so really, there is no point spending the extra for the Advocate, because they are pretty much the same seat.

All the best!! Good for you for doing some research!

EDIT: To correct one poster on here, the Boulevard DOES have the true side impact all the way down the seat, not just at the head….in fact (I spoke with Britax directly) and the two seats are exactly the same…the ONLY difference is the cushioning side impact (the airbag things) it just adds more cushioning around the head (on the outside of the seat) and is more of a protection for people sitting around the seat…the boulevard is just as safe. When I was researching, I even had a carseat technician state that the suggest was overkill with the airbags and that the Boulevard will stand up just as well in a crash…the suggest is simply the newer version of the boulevard. I was also advised by the same technician to stay away from the 3 in 1 seats…they never work the way they are supposed to because they will never recline the right way.

I had a friend purchase the Saftey 1st Alpha Omega seat…she hated it…they had to use pool noodles, blankets etc etc to get the right fit…I told her about the boulevard and the returned the seat the next day and got the boulevard and LOVES it. She was also told the same thing about the Suggest vs the boulevard and that the boulevard is just as safe as the advocate…

Answer by Courage
We got the Marathon, and we love it.

Looking at the Britax pages makes it a bit easier to decide. The Suggest (more expensive… but they estimate it at $ 30 less than Toys R Us so you might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else) has side-impact all the way down the sides instead of just around the head. So, it’s a bit safer. If safe is the issue more than money, that is the way I would go.

If you do decide to purchase from Toys R Us, watch the ads. Because usually in March (just 2 months away if you can wait that long) there are baby days. It’s either February or March… and they will put carseats on sale, or have specials with them, if the automobile seat is over this much you get this much off or a special item with it or something. And 10% off coupons aren’t that strange to find either.

We purchased ours from Toys R Us and they accidentally sent us the Marathon which was $ 100 more than the one we had ordered… and they did not make us return it to fix the problem since we needed it immediately. They have good customer service. I just think they overcharge sometimes.

Add: I found this review as well. She points out that with the Advocate, there is cushioning on the outside of the seat so that if someone is sitting by baby they aren’t going to hit their head on the outside frame either. They go into the side-impact air-bags (not actually inflating ones) on this other link. Interesting. Wish they had this when my daughter was born.

Add: Sorry, I am still going to disagree. Side Impact Technology, the cushions on the outside, are designed to yes protect the other passenger, but also to divert energy away from the child in the seat during a side impact. See last link. Yes, there is cushioning going all the way down the sides for both, but one has a different type of cushioning that helps divert the energy and does more than the other. That is why they made the improvement. Yes, they basically are the same… except one has this new technology that they believe protects the child more than the old system. It’s an IMPROVEMENT.

Love your automobile seat. I love ours (and in looking at it, it was the Marathon we ordered and the Decathlon we got). But realize that they have made an improvement and give them their Kudos for it. If you want increased safety, then the improvement is what you should go for. Even the Boulevard has had an improvement from the original design (with the CS being added.) These improvements hopefully increase safety and there is no reason to state “it’s just as safe” when one obviously has an improvement to make it safer.

Answer by ♥ Kyleigh’s Momma ♥ ((Heather))
I have the Boulevard, and I totally love it. The only difference between the two that I see is that the Suggest has Side Impact Cushion Protection. The Boulevard has just Side Impact Protection. I guess it would be up to you. I think the Boulevard is a great automobile seat. But I do not think that even had the Suggest when I purchased mine nearly a year ago. I do not really think it will actually be safer than the other ones, but I am also not a automobile seat expert. If you have the money, go with the superior one I guess. If you scrape the money together because you just want a safe automobile seat, go with the Boulevard, it is a really nice automobile seat.

I have the purple Boulevard. That was another one of my favorite things about the automobile seat. It came in some really adorable prints.

Question by Busy Mommy of 3:
Car Seat Recalled and I Never Knew?
We bought a Mia Moda Viva Supreme infant automobile seat for our son in April 2009. He was born in July 2009. The seat was recalled in October 2009 due to a metal harness splitter plate on the back of the automobile seat that has sharp edges that can cut the harness and the stay-in-car base can crack during a crash. I filled out the product registration card when we bought it and mailed it back to them, I think I might have even registered it online. I did not receive any notification about this recall at all. I went on the website this day to look for a new stroller and found the recall information! I was so mad that my son has been riding in this seat for the last 8 months and I never knew that it was unsafe!
Have you ever had a automobile seat recalled? Did you get a notification from the manufacturer? Is not that what the product registration cards are for, to inform the consumer about recalls and product updates? If not, what are they for? Why do I waste my time filling them out if they are not going to notify me of something like this?

The reason we bought this seat over others was due to it’s high safety ratings! How ironic!
On their website you have to input your seat’s serial numbers and manufacture date and then they determine if your seat is eligible for reimbursement. If it is then they send out a “return kit” in which you must cut out the seat belt and send it to them and they will send reimbursement when they receive it back.

——————————————

Answer by jayne
I had two automobile seats that were recalled. (Same seat) I received a repair kit and fixed the seats myself…..very simple. Call the company and request a repair kit. Next time you get a new product you can call and register your purchase. This way you KNOW they have your info in case of a recall or something.

Answer by Emma’s Mommy – 4 Months Old!
No, I have never had something recalled (yet) , but that is completely unprofessional.

I would call them and ask to talk with the individual involved who takes note of all the consumer information and ask why you were not informed of the recall and quiz them on how they are going to make you feel confident in your buy and submission of your information in case of recall.

If you select not to buy from them, I would let them know that as well.

I would ask/demand a total refund of the product.

——————————————
does anyone own this baby monitor or know why it’s not sold at target, babies r us or walmart anymore? Was it recalled??? I own this monitor and I hate it, Ive had it for 8 months now and the base gave out. I literally have to press the button like 20 times before the base switch will stay on. I am getting a new monitor but I went on to look at reviews on this monitor because i wanted to know if anyone else had this problem and realized this is not sold anymore and was wondering if it got recalled??

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8342862

okay thanks, no where around me is selling it anymore, must not be a popular sell anymore in my area

Answer by Nisha
http://www.safety1st.com/usa/eng/Safety-Notices?lookuperror=002610982

Go to the above mentioned website and put the product number which should be there on the product or product leaflet and see if its in recall or not?

Sorry, I dont have any idea why its not available anywhere.

Answer by *Sweetheart*
I actually just purchased it two weeks ago, and I saw it at both our Walmarts in the past week, but I have never seen it at Target, maybe the stores around you are just discontinuing? As for the website Walmart.com runs out of stuff all the time, I order almsot each month.

ADD: I just found it on the Safety 1st website, no recals
