Question by Heidi B:
Room sharing with a newborn?
My BF and I are anticipating our first child, a tiny girl. We have his children each other weekend. His daughter is 8 and his son is 6. Currently, they each have their own rooms.

However, the huge debate right now is where to put them when the baby comes. His daughter has the larger of the two rooms.

My idea is to put them together in her room, and redecorate it with a gender neutral theme. The baby would have his son’s room for the nursery. His sons room is markedly smaller than his sisters.

His idea is to put the baby and his daughter in the same room, since they are both girls.

I do not like this idea because when the baby wakes up crying in the middle of the night, it will wake up his older daughter. And to be frank, I do not want to miss out on the chance to decorate my first nursery. Mostly, though, I do not think it would be a good idea for a 8 year old girl to be woken up each other hour or so because I am in there feeding, changing, or soothing the baby.
Suggestions?
I also think that if the baby had her own room we could shut the door to the children room so the sound of her crying is muffled, so they can sleep better.

——————————————

Answer by keeping it real
Give the newborn her own room. Decorating a nursery is a special event that you shouldnt miss.

Answer by Stacey H
I think you definately have the right idea yourself.
It would be horrible for his daughter to be woken up all night by a crying baby. Sure, she might think it would be wonderful to share the room with the baby now, but she will hate it soon enough.
Stick to your guns, you are right.

Answer by 90304
Let baby girl have her own room

Question by Mama to 2 princesses:
Decorating my baby girls nursery, can anyone give me ideas?
I asked this question a few days ago, and I only got 4 answers… so I was wondering if I can get more answers out of you guys?!

We are moving in the fall, our daughter will be 11-12 months around that time. We want to give her a room that will last her until she is old enough to want to change it to her own taste. This is the bedding she has:

http://babybeddingmarket.com/images/prod…

We have oak furniture in her nursery now, but we are planning to purchase her all white furniture (like in the picture) and use the other furniture for baby #2 (which we will ttc in a few months).

Any ideas on how to decorate and paint her nursery? What colours, designs and accessories?

Thanks.

Ps- I do not really want to keep the walls white.
I’m so sorry about the link.
Here it is:

——————————————

Answer by minimarshmallo
A nice purple (for the walls) is superior for a girl (in my opinion) than pink if u want her to like it for a while…

Answer by Leah~Ari’s Mommy 10/23/09~
We are moving into our new home next month (so excited!) and I will painting one wall of Ari’s room pink and putting a big, white tree decal on it. It will hopefully look something like this:

http://dalidecals.com/Tree-with-Swirling-and-Spiraling-Branches-Wall-Decal-Sticker-Graphic.html

I stole this idea from a cousin in law who did it for her 4 year old’s room. I like it because it’s not too babyish, but it is tiny girlish and she will probably like it for at least the next 3-4 years. =D

Answer by prettyenough14
it would help if the link was not broken.

Came up with a couple of good ideas for a nursery but one that really stuck and would really like to do is Alice and Wonderland themed nursery. Im just having trouble putting things together or how to paint the room… please any ideas would help trying to get my nursery together… thanks

——————————————

Answer by lithaba
alice in wonderland has a lot of great characters. select two or three and work with a specific scene.use interesting colours — lots of greens and pinks.

Answer by Alexandra
This is a very adorable idea. I would state first go to Disney store to get some staple pieces, like huge stuffed animals or figurines etc. Then try Hobby Lobby or Michaels or a similar craft store for back up. This just popped into my head, go on the web and find some graphics with Alice in it, but child oriented (like Alice as a tiny girl etc), and you could multiprint this into a room border. Also, the tea celebration idea opens a lot of doors, and it might be easier to find borders like this or graphics, and its very child friendly.

——————————————

Question by Mommy of 5 littlies!:
Ideas for redecorating my childrens’ bedrooms and my baby’s nursery?
Ok, I live in a five bedroom house. One bedroom is used for my husband’s study and a spareroom for visitors. My twin 6 year old girls have their own rooms, and my three year old son has his own room. My three week old baby is sleeping in mine and my husband’s room.

We want to move our newborn into her own room, so we are moving the twins in together into the biggest room on the middle floor (we are on the third floor). Since this is currently my son’s room, we need to redecorate it. We also need to redecorate one room for my newborn girl (it hasn’t been decorated for six years) and a room for my three year old son.

I need ideas! We need one room for a baby girl, one room for a boy to last roughly from age 3 – 10. And a room to last for two girls roughly from age 6 – 12.

I was thinking for my son to have a pirate theme? Two white walls, one blue wall and one blue and white striped wall. All the floors are wooden so we could put a red rug in, then put signs like ‘walk the plank’ up around the room and I even found a pirate duvet cover to purchase here:

http://www.johnlewis.com/Shopping/PhotoGallery.aspx?Type=SKU&ID=230218213&ThumbID=3

I need ideas for girls’ rooms. I DONT want typical a pretty pink, princess room for my six year olds. I do not mind doing that for the baby nursery though.
Sorry – what is a comforter?
I am from England!

——————————————

Answer by emmas*mommy
let them select a colour if they will agree……on one wall you could take them shopping for wall stickers that easily pull off so you can change them as theyre tastes change:):) are they into any programmes like high school musical etc my sister just decorated my 12 year old neices room that…her walls are cream, my neice decorated one with stensils and posters and my sis only had to purchase bedding curtains clock etc:) take them ona girly shopping day for them to select if thats possible:) that way you cant go wrong, but id keep it easy the walls an all as they will change there minds:)

Answer by Lauren
For your 6 year olds dont do something tiny girlish because if they have to keep it till theyre 12… maybe you could find a adorable but fun comforter from wamart! look on theyre website under bed in a bag they have some great selections for kids. then when you have found a bedding they both concur on take like two colors from the bedding and paint each wall a plain color!

Answer by lorenswiffey
We did my 1 yr sons room in thomas and when/if we have a girl we are going to do it in pink and brown paisley it is not as babish and will grow with her though the years

——————————————

Question by SRR_lover_Bella’s Mommy:):
What are some good nursery ideas for baby girl?
I’m going to begin decorating her nursery soon and I want to make it very girly with pink and brown colors. Also the bedding will be Disney princess with Cinderella on it…but I cannot think of anything else to put on the walls so it doesn’t look so bare ? Any ideas will be helpful! Thx!

——————————————

Answer by yellowmous
As a home keeper I see lots of adorable nurseries, and I see a lot of stripes on the walls. Not up and down, but like one thick stripe around the room width wise looks really cute. There are also these white butterfly pop outs you can stick to the walls, I think they sell them at target or somewhere similar.

Answer by MuRk On S!t3
paint the wall pink and put a lot of crowns on it with different girly colors

Question by Sandra-Daniella’s Mum:
any good ideas on decorating the nursery while renting?
I would like to decorate the nursery for my baby girl, Im not sure if my landlord will let me paint the room, are their any stickers or wallpaper that comes of easily to use instead? any ideas would be useful, thank you!!

——————————————

Answer by ♥Mummy Sarah♥ Pregnant Miracle#2
Yes you can purchase these lovely peelable stickers that do not damage wall paper from BnQ http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b9372013%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372032%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372138%7d%2fspecificationsProductType%3Dchildren_s_wall_stickers&fh_reftheme=promo_159030003%2cseeall%2c%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b9372013%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372032%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372138%7d&fh_refview=summary&icamp=ns_1

Howver it will not injured to ask your landlord if you could perhaps paint one wall as long as you re-paint it when before you leave.

Our landlord let us us, so long as we took it back to neutral later on. x

Answer by Sarah B & Baby #1 due Dec 17th!
Hi hun,

We have just started decorating our tiny ones nursery. We asked our landlord if we could paint the room and she stated as long as it was a pale neutral colour we could, so we have gone for a pale lemon yellowy colour (don’t know if we are having a pink or a blue baby!), and we have also put up some safari animal wall stickers (called Stikarounds), which are really good. They are kind of non-sticky stickers if you see what i mean so they can be peeled off and restuck loads of times and dont leave any marks! I would advocate those. Also, we have done tiny things like changing the lampshade and curtains, just things that we can put the originals back up if we ever move out, it makes it look more like your own home. Have fun!

xx

Answer by Vicky
I just put these adorable Alphabet stickers on my Baby Shower list:

http://www.amazon.com/ALPHABET-Peel-Stick-Stickers-Accents/dp/B001NAW338/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1251196509&sr=8-1

but also have look at these ones — they are pretty large and more expensive, but the effect is fabulous:

http://www.amazon.com/Jungle-Safari-Room-Make-Over/dp/B0010E3O8A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1251196566&sr=1-2

Both options are gender neutral too, so you can do it before the baby arrives if you do not know the sex. Also think about putting up a border at the ‘picture rail’ or ‘dado/chair rail ‘ level. You can even put it above the baseboard, which is perfect for baby’s crawling height!

——————————————

Question by Nichole Nelson:
How to decorate/organize the nursery?
I am having a tiny girl soon and I do not know how I should decorate the nursery. Any ideas? I do not want to go overboard on price because we will be moving in a matter of months, and it will all go to waste. Maybe you could give me some ideas on how to decorate using items that can be taken to our new home when we move? Also we are having trouble organizing all of her stuff. Could you give me some cheap storage ideas (clothes, baby bath items, diapers, shoes, etc.)? Any tips on parenting a newborn will be appreciated as well. Thank you ahead of time! I will select a ideal answer soon so good luck!

Answer by Britany Bbertolet
If I could answer this in one word it would be research, but I can’t. You need to do as much research as possible. Under source there is a list of websites that helped me. I hope they help you too.
Be creative. Use nice picture frames and frame some of your nieces and nephews art work(if you have any). Butterflies are always simple to find. Pink and green are really good together. Find a nice blanket and decorate around that. Use toys as decoration. Put a room size rug on the floor, or get a smaller one as an accent. The furniture can double as decoration. Sounds weird, but frame a blanket and use it as art work. It really will look good if you use a nice blanket. Take photos of nature and frame them. Sorry about the jumping around, I just wrote what popped into my head. lol
Now for storage… Use I am having the same problem. Sorry I cannot help with that.
Parenting tips… I am due on june 12th so I cannot help with that either.
Good luck!

Answer by twinmommy1019
As far as decorating goes select a theme and then get items based around the theme. Just use photos and such as decorations so they can move with you and will not be wasted. Also, whenever possible try to get items at thrift stores.
There are so many themes you can try. I was going to originally do a dog theme (the local baby store had such adorable stuff with dogs even for girls) but I ultimatly selected winnie the pooh. Much more stuff. Much easier to find. And cheaper. You could also just do a color theme like purple.
For storing baby clothes that you aren’t using right away I advocate plastic totes with lids (at walmart around $ 5 a piece.) On outside put a label telling you what age range the clothes are for. If you have quite a bit you will want a tote for 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9 to 1 yr etc.
Diapers can be kept in a closet if you have a lot or on a bookshelf. I actually advocate getting a book shelf just for your baby stuff and again a few plastic bin (small ones) to hold items like pacifier etc. Put this in the room you use most. Usually living room. Have a special bin or basket in lavatory for baby shampoo soap etc if that is where you will be giving baths.
Everything not being used often can go in a closet.
Hope this helps.

Question by Ally Fox:
Decorating Newborn’s nursery and two year old room?
My husband and I are starting on my twin’s room this week. We are moving my two year old out of her old room into a larger room to fit her superior and my boys will be taking over her old room.
The boy’s room currently:
Walls-chocolate brown with pink flowers
floor- dark mahogany flooring
ceiling- white with pink butterflies on it
furniture- http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=19a7b0c&DeptID=70676&CatID=77448&SO=0&Ne=5+18+904+949+833&N=4294940794&Nao=0&PSO=0&cmAMS_T=XGN3&cmAMS_C=MERCHA&cmAMS_Z=XGN3TOPOFRESULTS&CmCatId=62438|62702|77448
As you can see lots of work to be done here and we really need idea’s on how to decorate this for two twin boys.
My daughters room currently:
Walls- white
floor- dark mahogany flooring
ceiling- white
bed- Princess Emily Twin Canopy Bed(white)
furniture- wooden dresser(white with ballerina slippers carved on the sides)
This room we have only used as a toy room so we have not decorated it. My daughter is in ballet for toddlers and adores to dance. So we thought maybe we could do it in ballet stuff but are lost as to where to find the stuff for it.
I would also like help on how to help my daughter like her new room.
Ideas and tips would help! Thank you.

——————————————

Answer by Captain
Maybe do a mural in your daughers room:

http://www.quiltsjust4kids.com/item_3858/Ballet-Dancer-Silhouette-Wall-Mural-Paint-by-Number.htm

http://www.magic-mural-factory.com/Level_2/Ballet_PBN_murals.htm

http://dalidecals.com/Ballerina-Dancer-and-Ballet-Toe-Shoes-Vinyl-Wall-Decals.html

Also, you could think about doing a wall of mirrors w/ a hand rail to make her feel like she can practice at anytime. You could think about adding a chandelier in place of the light fixture to give it an elegent feel (not real, just a nice adorable one from Wal-mart or Target).

I just found this website that has some adorable ideas: http://www.artandmurals.com/ballet_theme_girls_room.htm

For the boys:

What about an animal theme? Could be a farm or jungle theme. Maybe something like this:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/189-8114877-5267654?asin=B001QWQ65E&AFID=Performics_Google%20Product%20Listing%20Ads%20-%20Experiment%2004&ci_src=15781033&ci_sku=B001QWQ65E&LNM=Primary&ref=tgt_adv_XASD0001

http://www.amazon.com/Nursery-Wall-Mural-Self-adhesive-Stencil/dp/B001TE64UQ

A couple other ideas for the boys is a treehouse themed bedroom or sports theme bedroom.

I’m anticipating twins (24 weeks this day and JUST found out it’s twins)!
I figured I’d be superior off posting in Newborn and baby section as people with babies can share their nursery ideas with me!

I’m unsure of sexes, so ideas for boys and girls and unisex are welcome!!

I’m also unsure of whether to put them in separate rooms or keep them together, I am thinking if it’s two girls or two boys I will keep them together but a girl and a boy I will give them different rooms, as I have enough space to do so.

So any ideas you have are welcome, and photos are extra appreciated!

Thanks! (:

Answer by Ellen Kate due March 5th
I think you should definitely keep them in the same room even if they are boy girl twins. Definitely have two cribs-some people only have one.

Answer by <3Sarah<3
Have them in the same room.

Boy Themes:
Tractor
Bob the Builder
Blues Clues
Surf

Girl:
Flowers
Princess

Unisex:
Pooh Bear
