Question by Dougie Quick:
Could I post a poem here and hear views on whether it is in good taste or not? Re Babies?
BTW the limerick here I selected the title: “Pink or blue?”

“A baby was born in Peru, with genetic instructions for two. Father made a stink when the mom selected pink so they settled on both pink and blue.”

So I am just asking anyone: Do you think it might cross a line for decency? I mean it does happen, does it make a child obscene? How could any newborn child be obscene? The filth would only be in someone’s mind. But aside from the issue that of course an actual individual’s privacy would never permit making such a discussion along with their identity. Limiting things to the fictional then, the question becomes: is it healthy to treat the idea of such kids as taboo or is it okay to make full mention of them along with “normal” babies? If it’s not taboo then what about this sort of limerick among other poems and such in a tiny book centered on babies? To me it just demonstrates the parents strong love for their child and each other in suggesting that the biggest problem in dealing with such an occurrence is solved in deciding what colors to decorate the nursery in. It’s nearly making the fact that their child having two sets of DNA if not a small thing then at least nothing that is going to shake them in their love of each other or the child. Obviously not that some folks could not see in it recommendations of various leanings or politics, morality stances etc. However nothing of the sort is in there at all, and for that matter one might follow it to down right obscene scenarios if they were bent like that. In each case it would all spring from their own heart, as I guarantee it was not in the writer’s mind. Well anyway what do you all state about it? Thanks in advance

——————————————

Answer by *KELSEY*PPA*
uhm, well…it DOES happen, and I do not think there is any shame or need to hide it. Its not the babies fault afterall.

As far as decency goes, the author was not making fun of the baby so it seems decent to me. Was there a NEED for such a thing to even be written? Not really, but it was.

Answer by ♥GGM♥ Goo Goo G’Joob
Really? You wrote that poem? It sounds like a 2nd grader wrote it……..Just sayin’.

Answer by Fanta Chick
ok i dont get it at all

Question by Heidi B:
Room sharing with a newborn?
My BF and I are anticipating our first child, a tiny girl. We have his children each other weekend. His daughter is 8 and his son is 6. Currently, they each have their own rooms.

However, the huge debate right now is where to put them when the baby comes. His daughter has the larger of the two rooms.

My idea is to put them together in her room, and redecorate it with a gender neutral theme. The baby would have his son’s room for the nursery. His sons room is markedly smaller than his sisters.

His idea is to put the baby and his daughter in the same room, since they are both girls.

I do not like this idea because when the baby wakes up crying in the middle of the night, it will wake up his older daughter. And to be frank, I do not want to miss out on the chance to decorate my first nursery. Mostly, though, I do not think it would be a good idea for a 8 year old girl to be woken up each other hour or so because I am in there feeding, changing, or soothing the baby.
Suggestions?
I also think that if the baby had her own room we could shut the door to the children room so the sound of her crying is muffled, so they can sleep better.

——————————————

Answer by keeping it real
Give the newborn her own room. Decorating a nursery is a special event that you shouldnt miss.

Answer by Stacey H
I think you definately have the right idea yourself.
It would be horrible for his daughter to be woken up all night by a crying baby. Sure, she might think it would be wonderful to share the room with the baby now, but she will hate it soon enough.
Stick to your guns, you are right.

Answer by 90304
Let baby girl have her own room

I apologize in advance for long this is, but I just can’t take this anymore

I’m 39 weeks pregnant with my first daughter, Elizabeth Gabrielle, and my MIL has been trying to control each single decision about her since the day I told her I was pregnant. My MIL hates the name my DH and I have picked; she states it’s too “common”. When I told her the color scheme for the nursery was aqua blue and yellow, she told me that those were unsightly colors and she would be decorating the nursery since I have “no taste”. My MIL even came over with cans of pink and red paint and told me I needed to leave the home so she could redo the nursery the “right” way. I kicked her out, but she hasn’t let it go. I’ve made it very clear from the beginning that the only people granted at the hospital would be my husband and I, and everyone else was more than welcome to visit us once we get home and are settled in, which my husband and I figured would be about 4 or 5 days. My MIL told me that I was selfish and she announced that she would be the first to hold our daughter once she was born. My husband has sat down with her and explained that it’s our baby, not hers, and she stated that it doesn’t matter because since were first time parents, we have no business being alone with our baby. No one else in his family or my family acts like she does. I picked out an outfit for my daughter to come home from the hospital in, but my MIL threw it away and replaced it with awful red frilly dress that she states is “perfect” for a newborn. I told her she had no right to do that and she left my home crying. She called my husband that night and told him I was a horrible person and she threated that she would call CPS if we keep her away from her grandbaby.

I can’t take this anymore. I’ve tried to be nice to her, I’ve tried to explain to her that we have no intention of keeping our daughter away from her, but she just doesn’t listen. If something doesn’t go her way, she throws a fit. My husband gave up on her and told me I’d just have to suck it up and deal with it, because he can’t just ignore his mother. I will NEVER ask my husband to kick his mom out of his life, but I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

Have any mommies been in a situation like this before? How did you handle it? Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

——————————————

Answer by Ethel
Keep re-affirming your good boundaries, she needs to keep hearing it – it might take some time though. I recommend she barred from your delivery room and from visiting you in the hospital as well and make sure someone is there to manage her when she does visit at your home later. She cannot do any of what she has threatened and remind her if she continues you will get a court order barring her from seeing her grandchild as you have fears of kidnapping.

Answer by Claire
Wow, you have my each sympathy!

Not personally going through that, nor will I be but the hospital will be happy to refuse anyone entry that you request not to be there. If you tell them you do not want visitors then they are obliged to make sure that thats what you get.

Me I would have to insist that she were removed from my home and live. If she calls Child Protective Services on you, what will they find? Two doting parents and an overbearing grandmother? Let her call them, so what!!!

Feel for you! Huge style. Im 39 weeks pregnant this day and if my mum/mil started like that I would have to turf them out my life! It is not right!

Answer by Laura
Once the baby is born, she will be busy loving the grandbaby. Even though she is a critical person, she is the woman who raised your husband. State “thanks” for anything she does because you will be raising your daughter to put up with rude people. By the way, when you are a grandma, remember this – do not interfere in your kids’ lives.

——————————————

Question by Mama to 2 princesses:
Decorating my baby girls nursery, can anyone give me ideas?
I asked this question a few days ago, and I only got 4 answers… so I was wondering if I can get more answers out of you guys?!

We are moving in the fall, our daughter will be 11-12 months around that time. We want to give her a room that will last her until she is old enough to want to change it to her own taste. This is the bedding she has:

http://babybeddingmarket.com/images/prod…

We have oak furniture in her nursery now, but we are planning to purchase her all white furniture (like in the picture) and use the other furniture for baby #2 (which we will ttc in a few months).

Any ideas on how to decorate and paint her nursery? What colours, designs and accessories?

Thanks.

Ps- I do not really want to keep the walls white.
I’m so sorry about the link.
Here it is:

http://babybeddingmarket.com/images/products/display/Flora1000.jpg

——————————————

Answer by minimarshmallo
A nice purple (for the walls) is superior for a girl (in my opinion) than pink if u want her to like it for a while…

Answer by Leah~Ari’s Mommy 10/23/09~
We are moving into our new home next month (so excited!) and I will painting one wall of Ari’s room pink and putting a big, white tree decal on it. It will hopefully look something like this:

http://dalidecals.com/Tree-with-Swirling-and-Spiraling-Branches-Wall-Decal-Sticker-Graphic.html

I stole this idea from a cousin in law who did it for her 4 year old’s room. I like it because it’s not too babyish, but it is tiny girlish and she will probably like it for at least the next 3-4 years. =D

Answer by prettyenough14
it would help if the link was not broken.

——————————————
are there certain colors you can paint your baby’s nursery that is suppose to make your baby smarter? Were having a girl but im picky about the shades of pink im finding. Im afraid pink would get really old really fast. I really do not have a theme picked out, im just doing whatever right now… Thanks! – Bobbie
ok i know parents and education make your baby smarter people!!! BUT the more stimuli a baby has the more intelligent it would be, i.e. the more colors, shapes, textures, gosh people im not relying on the color of my nursery to make or break my babys intelligence!!!

——————————————

Answer by Artie Lange Fan
Parents and education make your baby smarter, not the color of the paint on the wall.

Edit: Pick green, green is a great color.

Answer by scummins08
When i think of intelligence i think of yellow or a forest green.

Answer by DarlingNicki
Yes, it is what you do and how your child is educated and what he/she is surrounded by that make a difference… that being stated a nice soothing color would probably be nice…

Came up with a couple of good ideas for a nursery but one that really stuck and would really like to do is Alice and Wonderland themed nursery. Im just having trouble putting things together or how to paint the room… please any ideas would help trying to get my nursery together… thanks

——————————————

Answer by lithaba
alice in wonderland has a lot of great characters. select two or three and work with a specific scene.use interesting colours — lots of greens and pinks.

Answer by Alexandra
This is a very adorable idea. I would state first go to Disney store to get some staple pieces, like huge stuffed animals or figurines etc. Then try Hobby Lobby or Michaels or a similar craft store for back up. This just popped into my head, go on the web and find some graphics with Alice in it, but child oriented (like Alice as a tiny girl etc), and you could multiprint this into a room border. Also, the tea celebration idea opens a lot of doors, and it might be easier to find borders like this or graphics, and its very child friendly.

Question by whatup:
Ideas for baby nursery colors?
ok so my furniture (crib/changing table/dresser) is expresso brown

i wanted to do chocolate brown at the bottom seperated w/ border and then pink on top

will that look dumb with expresso furniture pushed up againest a chocolate brown wall?

or should i do a light brown b/c expresso is very deep dark brown and then a lighter baby pink on top of that? i rlly like the chocolate color though and i cannot trade in my expresso furniture so im really confused at what to do

any help would be great

(please dont tell me other colors i want brown and pink =) thanks though)

what im worried most is the furntire blending in w/ the wall

——————————————

Answer by Ginger
If you want 1/2 & 1/2,why do not you wall paper the bottom with a pattern that has the 3 main colors, then you can put your pink on top.

Answer by mustang_girl2008
I would do pink at the bottom, then the darker brown on top, with maybe a cream color in between?

I would not do the dark color on the bottom though because the furniture will blend in.

We did light blue, tan, and chocolate brown in our nursery colors but our furniture is antique white so no blending in there.

Good luck!!

Answer by Luv2Read
I think it sounds very pretty. I love the dark browns and pinks too. I think you might have a point about the dark furniture being too much up against the dark wall, it will definitely blend in. Maybe you could do a lighter brown at the bottom, pink on top, and have expresso colored wood seperating the two or a border in between (in the dark brown) to kinda tie it all together? Also, if you already have the bedding and other accessories, maybe you could incorporate some of those colors as well. For example, if there are 2 different shades of pink you could put the darker pink on bottom, lighter pink on top seperated by the dark brown in the middle.

I do not think i’d do the dark brown on top as suggested. I think that dark of brown all the way around the top half of the walls would be way too overpowering for a tiny girl’s room.

——————————————

Question by Mommy of 5 littlies!:
Ideas for redecorating my childrens’ bedrooms and my baby’s nursery?
Ok, I live in a five bedroom house. One bedroom is used for my husband’s study and a spareroom for visitors. My twin 6 year old girls have their own rooms, and my three year old son has his own room. My three week old baby is sleeping in mine and my husband’s room.

We want to move our newborn into her own room, so we are moving the twins in together into the biggest room on the middle floor (we are on the third floor). Since this is currently my son’s room, we need to redecorate it. We also need to redecorate one room for my newborn girl (it hasn’t been decorated for six years) and a room for my three year old son.

I need ideas! We need one room for a baby girl, one room for a boy to last roughly from age 3 – 10. And a room to last for two girls roughly from age 6 – 12.

I was thinking for my son to have a pirate theme? Two white walls, one blue wall and one blue and white striped wall. All the floors are wooden so we could put a red rug in, then put signs like ‘walk the plank’ up around the room and I even found a pirate duvet cover to purchase here:

I need ideas for girls’ rooms. I DONT want typical a pretty pink, princess room for my six year olds. I do not mind doing that for the baby nursery though.
Sorry – what is a comforter?
I am from England!

——————————————

Answer by emmas*mommy
let them select a colour if they will agree……on one wall you could take them shopping for wall stickers that easily pull off so you can change them as theyre tastes change:):) are they into any programmes like high school musical etc my sister just decorated my 12 year old neices room that…her walls are cream, my neice decorated one with stensils and posters and my sis only had to purchase bedding curtains clock etc:) take them ona girly shopping day for them to select if thats possible:) that way you cant go wrong, but id keep it easy the walls an all as they will change there minds:)

Answer by Lauren
For your 6 year olds dont do something tiny girlish because if they have to keep it till theyre 12… maybe you could find a adorable but fun comforter from wamart! look on theyre website under bed in a bag they have some great selections for kids. then when you have found a bedding they both concur on take like two colors from the bedding and paint each wall a plain color!

Answer by lorenswiffey
We did my 1 yr sons room in thomas and when/if we have a girl we are going to do it in pink and brown paisley it is not as babish and will grow with her though the years
