IS AMMONIA SMELL ON CLOTH DIAPERS DANGEROUS FOR BABY TO BREATHE?
Apr 23rd
Question by Donna C:
Is ammonia smell on cloth diapers dangerous for baby to breathe?
I’m having what I believe is a urine residue issue on our cloth diapers. As soon as the baby pees, it smells of ammonia. I am not entirely sure if this is due to urine residue not being washed away well, or if it’s detergent build up – but I am betting it’s a direct result of our he machine not using enough water :/
Anyway…Is this dangerous for him to breathe while I get this resolved? Thanks!

IF YOU USE CLOTH DIAPERS, DOES YOUR BABY WEAR A BIGGER SIZE BECAUSE OF BULK?
Apr 2nd
Question by IJAF:
If you use cloth diapers, does your baby wear a bigger size because of bulk?
I guess it might depend somewhat on what type of cloth diapers you’re using? Anyway, I am about to buy some prefolds + covers, and also some pocket type diapers, and was curious about how much bulk there is going to be, like in a onesie. Will my baby need to wear a bigger size, since I am guessing clothes aren’t usually cut to grant room for cloth diapers anymore?

FABRIC FOR CLOTH DIAPERS FOR SENSITIVE BABIES?
Mar 12th
Question by tigermama4:
Fabric for cloth diapers for sensitive babies?
I want to make cloth diapers for preemies, what is the ideal fabric for the inner layer? I know some preemies can be really sensitive. I’d like to make AIO diapers, with PUL on the outer layer, probably hemp or microfiber in the middle (for the soaker), and I was thinking velour for the inside-but that doesn’t take the wetness away as well as suedecloth.
Any suggestions? Any cloth you REALLY like/dislike?

IS IT POSSIBLE MY INFANT IS SWEATING TOO MUCH INSIDE HIS DIAPERS?
Feb 20th
Question by Stanley C:
Is it possible my infant is sweating too much inside his diapers?
I want to avoid the wastefulness of disposable diapers. But when I put my 3-week old into a cloth diaper, and then cover it with the little plastic pants-like cover, the next time I check him (maybe an hour later?) the whole area inside the diaper is drenched. (And not to be too graphic, but it doesn’t smell like pee.)
I’m wondering if it’s possible that the plastic cover is making him sweat inside the diaper? Has anyone ever came across this?

CAN’T GET RID OF AMMONIA WITH MY BABIES CLOTH DIAPERS!?
Jan 30th
Question by yahoo ID 89523:
can’t get rid of ammonia with my babies cloth diapers!?
I thought it was the fact that he was sitting in pee over night that gave it time to turn to ammonia. ( he’s day potty trained and we just started cloth at night 3 weeks ago ) Well I just put a diaper on him and he peed…A few minutes later I catch a strong whiff of ammonia.
It ALREADY smells really strong!
I’m gonna have to put a disposable on him again until we get this figured out.
I really want to figure out what I am doing wrong cause I am due in 5 weeks and wanted to cloth diaper this baby.
I’ve tried 3 different soaps ( purex, all, and arm and hammer) I am only using like a tbsp and running it through 3 cycles! ( no soap – soap – no soap)
I have a front load washer.
I also tried a small squirt of blue dawn and just water.
I even tried 1/8 cup bleach.
( I tried all of these things seperatly not together)
nothing is working and it’s ticking me off!
Someone please tell me how to fix this ammonia problem!
I ran them through 3 extra hot cycles plain water cycles ( back to back ) last week…there was no suds.
Still ammonia!
