Question by Bella:
Mummy and daddies, Ever had a premature baby?
Hey Mummy and Daddies.

I just had premature baby, born 22nd Might 2010. My gestation was 27 + 5 days. I had a gorgoues baby girl.

I got rushed into hospital weekend before with vaginal bleeding down below, they kept me in over night and checked up on me but i was not dilated at all. The next morning came and the physician came round and told me that i was fine and ready to go home my bleeding also had stopped and that i should get a scan booked to check everything is okay. However the scan never happened, unfortunatly.

I got sent home later that day feeling fit as a fiddle and knowing (well thought) my baby girl was great.

During the week i felt cramp in my abdomen but just mild cramp as if you were on your period, ladies. But didnt think anything of the sort.

Then the friday came and i was just sitting at the dining table and decided to feel my stomach and i touched my belly button and it was really sore to touch and very sensitive but then again thought nothing of it again…silly me. The following night early saturday morning was round about 4 am and i woke up with very strong period like cramp but turned over and went back to sleep ovbiously still in pain. Then about 9 am saturday morning i woke up with the same pain but worse so i decided to go to the toilet and see if the pain would go if i had a wee, but i was still in pain then boom came the contractions!

less than 3 minutes apart they kept on getting worse, then all of sudden blood gushed out..i was with my partner when this happened and i just started crying knowing i was in more danger than the weekend before!

I rang the ambulance and they came out took me straight to maternity but on the way there it was getting worse, it was unbelievable. I could not get out of the ambulance i had to be helped down onto a wheel chair and was rushed straight into delivery suite. As i got in i could not move, got rushed in onto the bed and got told i was fully dilated, they told me i needed an emergency cesarean.

Once i came round from the Operation i had a beautiful baby girl and i named her Summer she weighed 2 pounds 7 oz. She got transfered to special care baby unit in another hosptial, she has now been transfered back to the hospital she was born at.

Summer is now currently still in hosptial and is 1 month old today, shes getting a lot superior and is now 3 pounds 6 oz! I could not be any more proud, shes gorgoues.

I was just wanting to know if any of you mummy or daddies have ever had a premature baby and your experiences :-

Labour
How your baby is doing
How old they are now
How hard it was to go through times like this
What process they went through in hospital
and anymore you wanna add.

——————————————

Answer by Baby boy due on August 10!!
I have not had my baby prematurely since he is still in there at 33 weeks . But my sister-in-law had a premature baby 4 years ago.

She’d had a leak in the bag, and one day on her 25 + 6 day she was in the grocery store when her water broke. She was rushed to the hospital where her tiny girl was born early. She weighed about 1 pound 15 oz. She had to be in the NICU for a couple of months while she continued to mature and rely on a respirator to breathe for her. She was eventually granted to go home after surviving such a hazardous situation. She is now 4 years old and a beautiful tiny girl. I cant believe how much she is grown since then. She really was a miracle baby.

Answer by smiley1
i had my daughter at 29 weeks pregnancy i was already a high risk pregnancy i was already in the hospital on a sunday evening i told the nurse i was having a contraction she stated it was not showing so later on within the next two hours my water bag broke in the bed no family was there they had just left they was moving from one side to the other to have the baby we did not have time i was fully dialted and she was breach foot first we delivered her and she was dead when she came out but nicu nurses took her away and my daughter weighed 2 lb6 oz and was 18 and 3 fourths long she stayed in there two months and had to have shots during the winter season for her first two years a nurse would come out my experience with nicu was scary and i had to take a cpr class before leaving the hospital and before you get to leave with her you will meet with her team and discuss the discharge plans an appointments they set up for the baby mean while they release you to a room for one night to observe you with the baby and after that they set you up with kid team which follows the baby to make sure evreything is developing normal. my daughter left nicu when she was 4lbs 7 ozs she is currently22 month 25 lbs and 3 feet and she is a well adjusted toddler

——————————————
I was reading a bit up on it, and I read a few places that its an old wives tale that the lineas negra (the line that forms down your belly during pregnancy) can determine the gender of the baby. if it stops at your belly button youre having a girl, if it goes up to your sternum, it is a boy.

Answer by ***My Baby B0y Is Here***
well i didnt even get one..wats that suppose to mean?

Answer by Ellen
Mine is actually only above my belly button, and I am having a girl. So, that doesn’t really concur with that wive’s tale. But I am sure that like most things in pregnancy, it’s different for everyone.

Answer by ashleigh
alot of people swear up and down im having a girl becuase im carrying high bt im having a boy! those old wives tales are just a myth. bt some people swear by them. me, i go by what the physician tells me.

Question by Mellie G:
Why do women do this to themselves and their unborn baby?
I was as the gym, I saw a woman who was working out and literally skin and bones, then I realized that she was pregnant, she look about 20 weeks give or take, but then I realized her belly button was poking out, so that means she far along in her pregnancy. I just want to know, why would someone not take care of themself and their unborn baby?
she was so skinny she looked anorexic

——————————————

Answer by ♥ღ♥Jess ♥ღ♥ 28wks Baby#3
She’s probably the type to freak if she gains 1 pound.

Answer by Pumpernickle
She might be taking care of herself and the baby, you have no way of knowing she isn’t. I worked out my entire pregnancy and was very small and was fine, this was all done under my physicians supervisor of course. So she might be doing the same.. there is no way of knowing.

Answer by Bones
Just because a woman is exercising during her pregnancy, and she is skinny, does not mean she is not taking care of herself and the baby. Some women do not gain a lot of weight when they are pregnant. With my first child, the only way you could tell I was pregnant was from my belly poking out in the later months. My physician advised me to continue exercising. The key thing is not to “over do it”, or engage in more physical activity than before your pregnancy.

However, with my second child I blew up. I think it was due mostly in part to the fact that I was eating Tiny Debbie snacks by the box….LOL It’s funny, because to this day, my second child is a sweet eater.

——————————————

Question by BabyGirl*DueJune4th*:
Does the pregnancy line indicate gender ?
I was reading a bit up on it, and I read a few places that its an old wives tale that the lineas negra (the line that forms down your belly during pregnancy) can determine the gender of the baby. if it stops at your belly button youre having a girl, if it goes up to your sternum, it is a boy.

Anyone care to prove or disprove this? Just curious is all!

——————————————

Answer by Kyla and Raygan’s mom
I do not know if that is true or not but when I was pregnant with my girls it stopped at my belly button

Answer by Britt
It disproves it, because not all women get that line on their belly. It’s usually people with darker skin. But I guess if you just factor the people with the lines, mine goes farther down than my belly button and i’m having a boy. But my sister had twin girls and her line also went all the way down.

Answer by Yumi
I cannot really prove anything, but there is no way to determine your baby’s sex until you see the images in the doctor’s office. They are just tales to get your hopes up. I would not look into it.

——————————————

Question by Mommy to Mia:
Will I get a round pregnant belly being overweight?
I am 19 weeks 3 days pregnant. I am desperate for a pregnant belly! I am 5’4” and prepregnancy I was 208lbs. I have only gained 7lbs. I have been in maternity pants since I was 16 weeks. I have what some people call a “double belly” (my stomach splits horizontally in the middle at my belly button). It’s not that huge honestly, about an inch or so. I can feel my uterus right below my belly button now and I have started feeling the baby moving. It is a very exciting time!!

But…I can’t help but continue to wonder when I will get a round pregnant belly. When will I pop out? Will the top of my stomach fuse with my lower stomach? When do you think this will happen? People tell me they can’t tell I am pregnant and are shocked when I tell them I am nearly 5 months. It is very upsetting for me. I am desperate for a round pregnant belly and have been since I found out we were expecting.

Someone out there has had this problem, I know it! Please let me know how your pregnancy went and then you started to show. I appreciate any kind of story or situation like mine. (Please keep your diabetes/overweight comments to yourself, me and my physician are dealing with my weight, I walk and take care of myself everyday).

——————————————

Answer by Momof2inIL
I know of several of my friends that were overweight and they got the round pregnant belly. It happened a tiny later than some, but it was definitely there by week 26 or so. You do not have much longer to go until you should be able to tell. Ideal of luck, hon!

Answer by BabyBoy DueXmas
I know a few overweigh preggo women and they did get the round preggo belly. It did not happen until much later in the pregnancy, like closer to 30 weeks, but it did happen!

Answer by littlepoohbear
many over weight women do not even show while they are pregnant. If you are over weight they do want you gain less too. All the over weight women I know never really showed and never got the round belly. They usually got larger in the face and that is about it. The smaller you are the rounder the belly is. The shocked reaction is common from the people i knew and the people who have posted on all the boards i speak on just because it’s harder to get the round belly because there is already room in there for them. As long as your baby is healthy I would not worry about what your belly looks like. I am 38 weeks and by belly looks like a perfect round object, and all the comments are annoying. Each where I go, you look like you have a basketball in there, etc. Provide your baby with the nutrients he/she needs. When he/she comes out those looks will mean a lot more to you then how your belly looked. congrats and ideal of luck.

——————————————

Answer by Dee
Wow. Is there anyway you could get a book on parenting? Could you call the hospital and ask for some advice and see if someone could come visit you at home? You really want to ideal care for your baby and if you are unable to, make sure you get help.

Is she getting fed each few hours day and night? Thats probably the most important thing until you can get someone to help you.

I have a boy so I have no idea about the white stuff. As for the belly button, leave it alone unless it is pussing, in which case use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol. Hiccups are normal. If you are using a pacifier, that might help her.

Answer by kadr29
I have 2 young kids and from what I remember you do not necessarily clean the belly button area, just keep the diaper turned down a bit so it does not rub it. Ask your pediatrician to double check. It needs to dry out so it can fall off in a week or so, just be careful with it, not to pull on it or try to take it off yourself at all. the white stuff in her vagina is fine just wipe her when you change her but ther eshould be a tiny in there for lubrication. I would not worry about the hiccups unless she is crying. Just feed her each 2hrs if you are nursing and each 3-4 if you are using formula. She will let you know when she is hungry, believe me!! lol Follow her signals and make sure she sees the pediatrician regularly. Congrats!!!

Here is a website about the belly button care…

http://www.gerber.com/Articles/Caring_for_your_newborns_belly_button.aspx

Take care!! of you and her!!

Answer by cj’s mommy
Hiccups are normal. I read in my what to anticipate for the first year that when the do hiccup that means they are over worked and tired. I do not know what to state about the white stuff. But with cleaning the cord you do not have to. My physician at the hospital and pediatrition both never told me how to do it.

Question by Kathleen M:
What is growing out of 6 month olds belly button?
My son is 6 months old. His umbilical cord stump fell off really late, he was a month old. Ever since he has had this tiny bit of scar tissue and a white hard dot about the size of a small beed. It actually looks just like a huge white head, but its not. Its hard. It doesn’t bother my son. His physician stated it was a granuloma, then she changed her mind and stated just scar tissue (there is some pink csar tissue arround it, which i am not worried about but that does not exlain the hard spot). I saw another dr who stated it might be a granuloma or cyst, but was probably a piece of cord which the skin grew over.
It seems to grow slightly larger as my baby grows. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have spent countless hours researching and have found nothing. I do not care about what it looks like, i just do not want this to harm my son in any way. Please help

——————————————

Answer by carebear
The odds of it being harmful are very low. The only purpose that an umbilical cord serves is in the uterus. Most likely it is an umbilical hernia. Very harmless. But can cause cysts and scar tissue. They normally go away or are left alone. In rare cases they are removed for quality of life…ie..looks. Not for health reasons. Next time use rubbing alcohol several times a day. Not only does this keep the umbilical area clean, but it dries out the cord. Which helps it fall off faster.

Answer by samira
My son had granuloma and it’s nothing to worry about. After his cord fell off it looked really bad so I took him to the Dr and they put something on it. They stated it would probably heal fine and if not-it just would not be the prettiest “outie” belly button but it would not be a problem.
If they think it might be a cyst or skin they probably will not really do anything and I do not think it would be anything to worry about.

Answer by TheresaP
no idea

Answer by JackieG
usually the hospital will advocate a cream for the belly button you can use and cotton swabs.. but besides that its pretty much making sure it doesnt get wet and its protected…

Answer by » мαмα кαss ;
The hospital will give/tell you what to do for that.

Answer by Twally
We had to wipe his belly button with alcohol– though I do not remember actually doing it that much.
Also for the circumcision we had a cream called Vita Merphen (sp?) it was awesome. I would actually stock up on it for cuts and things in general. That is all we had to do with it.

Question by E*L*C n P*C*J:
34 weeks prego and feeling tight stomach on both sides of my belly button?
my stomach had been hard for 2 or 3 days an it kinda felt like i had two balls from left to rite i was assuming maybe it was the babys bum and then the head on my rite and all of a sudden the width of my stomach looked longer to the sides instead of the up down position babys suppose to be in and those 3 days ago my rite side was hurting like around my hip area and dr stated it cldve been his head or bum pressing on my pelvic area cld it be transverse and if so anyone care to share there symptoms and signs baby wa transverse what did it feel like

——————————————

Answer by ~*<3J<3*~
It sounds like baby is still trying to move around a bit. At 32 weeks, my baby has found the comfty spot of sticking sticking her butt out and stretching out my stomach in the process, lol. But if it’s changed to a longer and hard feeling near your upper stomach and even belly button area, then it could be her back meaning she would indeed be transverse, even for a moment. My baby is actually moving right now and sometimes her butt will be on the left or the right or go back and forth. (Idk how they manage it!) If you are feeling pressure down below, its very likely its her head but sometimes they also go for fist punches down below too. I only know my baby is head-down because my obgyn physician was able to tell at my last appointment and she feels pretty much the same still, so I figure she is still in that position. Hope all this helps!

P.S. Belly mapping might also help you comprehend the fetal movements and where she is at. http://www.spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/belly-mapping
