Question by ♥ℓøvε♥:
when do i begin brushing my baby’s teeth and gums?
I believe I would begin now since my baby has her 2 bottom teeth..but I want to be sure. Yesterday I purchased some baby oral-b stages tooth and gum cleanser and a baby tooth brush. Please let me know all the info you might have, including how to brush her tiny teeth the right way and how long. My baby is 7 months old.

——————————————

Answer by mark
id probably begin at nine months but i just waited till my litlle guy did it on his own. he seen me and his mother do it and he started too but i comprehend that you want to get started early but i would ask your physician or dentist first

Answer by Whurlywheep
As soon as baby has a tooth. Keeping the teeth clean and the gums massaged with a toothbrush gets baby used to the idea and helps the circulation in the gums. You might find baby chews on the brush at first.

Answer by theresad
you could actually have started at like 3 months you can brush the gums before they have teeth it helps to massage them but yes you can begin now

Question by S.Z.:
How often do you brush your infant’s teeth and what brush and paste do you use?
My 6 month old has 4 teeth and 2 more coming in. They came in when he was 5 months old.

I was brushing his teeth once per day, at night before bed.

I was thinking I need to begin doing it after each bottle or meal.

I was using a finger brush but am now going to have to get a regular brush because he is been trying to bite my finger really hard while I use the finger brush.

How often do you brush your baby’s teeth? How old are they? And what kind of brush and paste do you use?

——————————————

Answer by My Perspective…
well, when my stanka was old enough to hold the toothbrush and imitate me I started putting colgate jr on her tooth brush
She always had her own toothbrush though that she could brush at her teeth with while I was doin mine.
She brushes her teeth each day with me now but she is also 17 months now.

I did not begin putting toothpaste on it until she was like a year though

Answer by Greg Macquarie
Every night thoroughly and briefly at midday. I use an infant toothbrush and infant toothpaste. Try Toys ‘R’ Us. They do not only sell toys there.

Answer by Diet C
We have a super-soft bristled toothbrush specifically for infants. It’s tiny and fat so perfect for her to hold, I think it’s made by Colgate.
I run it across her teeth each time I brush mine (so, 2-3 times a day) then I let her chew on it for the 2 minutes or so it takes me to brush my teeth. She adores it because it makes her feel like a part of something and it’s to my advantage since she should grow up knowing it’s normal and I shouldn’t have too many wars over it.
We do not use any toothpaste, just warm water for her. I do not think the use of a toothpaste is really necessary at this point and will not be for a while yet.
She’s 7 1/2 months and has 6 teeth with 2 more on the way.

——————————————

Answer by nanaboss
Get her one now, especially since kids learn from their parents and siblings. She develop good habits early if given the chance.

My grandsons all loved to brush their own teeth as babies. The 2 older ones are 4 ^ 6 and they still brush well and regularly.

Answer by Tillie’s mum TTC#2
I started brushing my daughters teeth when her teeth came through just a few months after, and then a few months down the line she got to comprehend what to do and will started with normal infant tooth bush and she is been fine with it.

Answer by *Love my baby girl TTC #2*
I would wipe my daughters gums with a wet cloth since she was a couple of months old. I started using a tooth brush when she got her first tooth, it’s also when I started using toddler toothpaste.

Question by LittleRaysMama:
How often should I be brushing his teeth?
My son is 8 months old and just cut his 3rd tooth the other day. He is also slicing another one so he will have 4 on the bottom and none on the top! But my question is how many times a day should I be brushing his teeth? I have a tiny infant tooth brush for him and want to get him into a routine now, so it’s hopefully easier when he is older. Should it be the same times as I do? Or do I need to brush them after each meal? What do you do? Thanks, all help is appreciated!

——————————————

Answer by naranjas99@sbcglobal.net
once a day will be fine…

Answer by kellyrh804
You can brush your baby’s teeth as often as you would like. My daughter only has two teeth and her physician has told me that it is actually more effective to take a dry or wet cloth and wipe her teeth…opposed to brushing them, at least until she comprehends that she needs to keep her mouth open. It can be hard to actually get them clean.I take a small cloth and wipe her teeth several times a day. The physician has also told me that even if I use a toothbrush, the toothpaste is unnecessary. The toothpaste doesn’t have a chance to clean the teeth before the baby swallows it, so do not use it. I hope this help you! And good luck with your tiny one.

Answer by Kennedy&Jaylen
Just the same as adults should but we do not LOL. After each meal and before bedtime and when we wake up.

Answer by eponine1028
You begin brushing as soon as teeth appear. You can use a soft cloth and water, a toothbrush and water, or they make special “infant” finger toothbrushes as well. You do not need to use any kind of toothpaste. Also, you really only “need” to brush once a day–at night is best.

Most pediatric dentists recommend taking your child for their first visit around age 1.

Answer by M
You could use one now. I purchased my son Sesame Street toothbrushes at that age. We have evolved to an annoying Yo Gabba Gabba singing one. Ugh. At least he likes brushing though, right?

Im a smoker, and a daddy, I have tried to give up several times but I guess I just do not really want to. I have 2 children who are healthy, and we have just had another (2 days ago). If I smoke outside (as I always do) and then change my clothes and brush my teeth is my baby still at risk?

Answer by ahhhhhhhhh. screw it
Probably not. Changing your clothes and brushing your teeth might be over doing it a bit. Just smoke outside.
