Question by smartypant:
my daughter does not want to bathe?
My daughter is 10 years old and she is a beautiful girl. She is starting to develop and is looking more and more like a young woman everyday. The problem is that she refuses to bathe. I litterally have to threaten to put her in the shower and bathe her myself, like she is a baby, just to get her into the shower. If I do not yell at her and threaten her to shower each single day, she will not do it. I have explained to her that she is a developing young woman and her hormones are doing some wild things and that her body will produce smells that will knock someone out! When she has body odor, I take that opportunity to explain the importance of being clean. I am at a loss on what to do. I told her that when children at school begin telling her that she stinks and they do not want to be her friend, that I will not go to the school to deal with this because I can not argue the truth. I know, that sounds horrible but I do not know what else to do. what can I do?

——————————————

Answer by Texperson
I think you need to find out WHY she doesn’t want to bathe. Really not completely normal at her age, maybe something is wrong and you need to help her get over it.

Answer by Max
Tell her no TV, computer, phone calls, or anything of the sort until she bathes. Make her shower after school and she can do nothing but study until her bath is taken.

Answer by pearlmar
Withhold something she feels she needs each time she doesn’t take a bath without an argument.

——————————————

Answer by Esto_Perpetue
Just try to stay as cool as possible. Always take spare clothes, a damp cloth etc. I would go ask your physician about it. There is a treatment they can do.

Question by cook1:
Is the new born baby smell real?
I remember I smelled a baby..or maybe kind of randomly caught the aroma of a 3 month old baby..my cousin’s son years ago and I remember it smelt similar to baby products like lotions or ath but somehow I think it was the new baby smell…at the time I did not know that there was such a thing until I guess later…

and when I found out about it I thought
Oh! that must have been the smell!

why would I think so.?
well when I smelled the baby , (it was his neck that smelt that way)
this was in Africa, in a village..and as you know Africa is hot ..etc
I am not sure what the parents bathe the baby in ..but he was 3 months at the time

If its real can I just state that an awesome phenomenon.
I mean there is nothing in the human body that I would think or know of of that could produce smells like that.. (well I am not an expert or dr so..)
when people think of humans having an odor..you think of sweat, poop, etc. and other things that for the most people do not smell good..

but somehow many newborns can come out smelling like that..? of course the
I can completely see how God doing this though..:) like His special touch : )

James 1:17
17 Each good gift and each perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Dad of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Also I think its kind of smart..
making babies cute, smell good, etc..small ,precious, etc…like it will make the parents care much more superior for the child….

kind of sad though to think that without that would we love the babies as much..hmm?
I know there people out there who would but ..for most are many of the people in human race as a whole..yeah, not so sure..

( btw, I do not have children)

——————————————

Answer by 32 weeks with #2
This definitely makes it on my Top 10 list of creepiest questions ever asked on YA.

Answer by Melissa
well to the 1st answer… Mom of 2 or something………ur an idiot. you have nothing superior to do then try to make funny jokes and get thumbs up for being an idiot. go take care of ur kids:) and yes the new baby smell is real. its usually the top of there heads that have that distinctive smell. idk what it is neither. but its great lol.

Answer by Proud Mummy
You are right. Nature, or god as you believe want’s a mom to ‘love’ and ‘nurture’ her child. This is why babies are very cute, so that moms love them more.

The smell, which we all have, is called a pheromone. Babies release them too, and again, this is just another one of those things evolution has developed so the mom will love and want to nurture her baby more.

——————————————

Question by :
Smelling breast from breastfeeding?
I have a 3 week old baby and ever since I started breastfeeding her, my breasts smell like sweat/body odor. I shower daily and wear fresh clothes and because of the smell I wash my breast several times a day. In the beginning I thought I might be sweating a lot but I checked my armpits and they smelled fine. I know it’s not the smell of the milk, because the milk smells different than that. And my breast never smelled before I had a baby. So how come it smells so bad now and how can I stop it?

——————————————

Answer by Landens mommy
i had the same problem and the only way to solve this problem is for your breast milk to dry up then the smell goes away

Answer by Ethel
It’s a good smell to your child, since it’s your smell, and leads then to the nipple to suckle. It is what it is, just keep your breasts dry.

Answer by Leah~Ari’s Mommy 10/23/09~
I do not know what else it could be besides your milk leaking into your nursing pads and/or bra. The extra moisture and warmth from your body is a breeding ground for bacteria. I experienced this when my daughter was a newborn, when my milk was still letting down at random times and I frequently became engorged, thus I leaked more. I just had to change my nursing pads more often and keep myself as dry as possible.

——————————————

Question by Steena:
Breast milk odor?
When I am breastfeeding, I notice this foul odor that I thought it comes from my body but is not. I only smell it when I breastfeed. Even if I just took a shower and then I breastfeed, I still notice this odor and found out that it’s my own breast milk causing the odor.
When I smell my baby’s mouth, the odor is also there.
This doesn’t happen all the time but this is the second time. The first was when she was 3 weeks old then now again on her 3rd month.
What causes this odor?
and what should I do to prevent this from happening?
Only serious answers please. Thank you.

——————————————

Answer by Novaite
Breast milk changes flavor and color depending on what you have eaten that day. You might want to think about changing your diet to see if that helps. If the odor is still there, I’d contact my doctor.

Answer by !IHaveABabyGirl!
I dont know about odour, but i find that i sweat a lot whilst breastfeeding. Are you eating something like onions or garlic in your food, because that could possibly cause your milk to smell….this is very weird, because my milk smells quite sweet, even when ive had something like hot curry to eat and my baby’s mouth smells like yoghurt..i love smelling her breath!

Answer by blossy
im not too sure what to do if your breast milk is smelling apart from changing your diet and talk to a feeding specialist…
but a similar thing happened with my new baby, after a day or two, i realised her neck folds were deeper than i was reaching while bathing her and when sje would dribble and have a vomit, tiny bits were getting caught in there, just this one tiny bit directly beneath her chin, where a baby has trouble lifting, and when i found it and cleaned it, it was a tiny red.. not to mention the fact i now pay xtra attention to those smaller areas..

so if you havent already, maybe you could check this area??

good luck tho!!

——————————————

Question by Pixie Stix:
Question on spelling for baby boy Bo/Beau/Boue/Bow/Boe ect?
We are having twin boys and have picked out names. One of them will have the middle name of “Bo” but we are unsure how to spell it. I have seen it spelled most like Bo and Beau, but have also seen it spelled Boue, Bow, and one even Boe. My husband does not like the spelling of Beau and thinks if we spell it Bo that people will think of BO as in Body Odor. He likes bow, but I do not like this spelling. Reminds me of bow as in take a bow and is also spelled like hair bow. We have considered Boue but are afraid it will be mistakenly pronounced like “Bouie.” Any other suggestions? Beau and Bow are basically out of the question. Will Bo or Boue be an okay spelling?

My baby is 6 months old, and i just recently noticed his armpits smell like BO. It actually smells like adult body odour! I bathe him each day, I dont know what it could be and im so worried! If anyone could offer some insight that would be great. Im taking him to the physician tommorow.

Answer by Pooh Bear Fan
try sprinkling some baby powder under there after you dry him from his bath hope it helps out

Answer by mcwife2
I concur with the powder idea. When you wash him, make sure you are getting in any baby folds he might have and rinsing the soap well.

Is there an irritation there? Any redness?

dont worry the ped will tell you tomorrow. I am sure he is fine

Answer by Britt
Have you tried switching deodorants? Or getting one of those heavy duty ones that are like $ 7 a stick? I have had to use the really costly kind since I got pregnant because I just sweat so much since becoming pregnant, but I do not smell bad.

Answer by Portia
I had the same problem after I gave birth to my son. It was very embarrassing, I went back to my OBGYN and asked him about it. He stated it was normal because of the drastic change in hormones. My doc was able to prescribe me with a clinical strength deodorant that worked wonders, and still works great! I do not know how well the over the counter “clinical strength” Deodorant works, mine was prescription. I’d say, give your doc a call.

Answer by Kris Paw
puberty

Answer by elsie
Hmm…if your baby is developing odors “down there” I would suspect an infection of some sort.

Answer by Sara C
If a baby or child has odors ‘down there’ it is likely a sign of an infection or of poor hygiene. If the child is an infant, I would advocate giving her a bath- make sure you watch her private parts well and then apply a powder afterwards. If the child is a tiny bit older I would recommend having a female (if you are a male) speak to her about showering and hygiene. If there is still an odor in the child after this, take her to see a physician as they might have some sort of vaginal infection that would need to be treated. Good luck!
