Question by shannon t:
newborn stools runny and rash on bottom ?
My 6 day old baby who is formula fed has very loose stools. They are yellow, which I know is normal however extremely runny, sometimes shooting out while I change her not a large amount but looks like the 1st part of mustard when you use it. Its also making her bottom very tender. I put destine on it each changing. Any other ointment someone can recommend and what about the stool. She does seem to be bothered by them. She pushes hard to get them out and crys like shes in pain each few minutes after she eats.

——————————————

Answer by Angie P
Her formula might not be concurring with her. I had the same problem with my son, even though his diaper rash got REALLY BAD!! I would call your doc, they might want you to switch her formula to something that is easier on her tiny tummy.

I will give you the ideal recipe for a diaper rash. Take desitin and mix it with Maalox (yep, the liquid that you take as an anti acid). It is messy to put on but the desitin will protect and the Maalox will draw out the acidity on the bottom. I promise you in 24 hours it will look much better.

Question by dsnk:
baby stools?
My baby is now 2.5 months old. He is absolutely on formula. Please dont lecture me on benefits of Breast Feeding. Help me by answering my question. My baby was extremely colicky and gassy and he is on Similac Alimentum. Till the last 2 days he would poop once a day and it was extremely dark green color poop. Now since last 2 days his stool color is changing to a more yellowish color and he is also less colicky. He still has gas but nothing mylicon can’t solve. But also he is passing stool about 3 times a day. I want to know if it is normal for a formula fed baby to change stool color and also pass more stool. Keeping in mind that we have made no changes to his diet.

——————————————

Answer by ~Ronda~
Yes it is normal. It actually was not normal what he was doing before. All babies do is poop and eat and sleep lol. Once a day was not enough and that is what could’ve been causing him to be gassy. Yellowish color and greenish color are both fine. Yellow you usually see more in breastfeed babies but if he is less colicky than good! You will be able to tell diarrhea it will nearly be water blended in with the stool. I know you are confused right now cause his stools look soo different from ours but he seems like he is on the right road now. Just keep watching him. He might be having a reaction to the formula, if he is than you will have to find one for babies that have colic or gassy problems, It’s been soo long but if I remember correctly my son had the same thing I put him on Similac Isomil and that did wonders for him but ask your physician before you change and see what he recommends. Good Luck to you!

Answer by christophersmom111007
my son is 2.5 months old too. he is absolutely on formula we have already changed his formaula 3 times because of irregular stools, extreme gas pains, and colic. mylicon works for him too but we have to give him an ounce of prune juice blended with a ounce of water 1 time a day for his stools to be regular because if i dont then its really stiff and he gets constipated and will go at least 3 days without one.. his were a dark green too and sometimes his are yellow . he is on enfamil lactofree right now but we are about to switch him to similac alimentum bc the physician recomended that. and if you could help me out to when i switch him to that do you have to have any vitiman supplements or anything because i have heard that with the hypoallergenic formulas?

Answer by maf
I aggree with ~Ronda~!

He is happier, seems to tolerate it superior than before.

Question by little_miss_worry:
Stools in infant? Help lol?
I have a 2 month old who is formula fed on Enfamil. We switched her about a month ago from Similac to the Enfamil because she is extremely gassy, etc and she is seemed to do better. Doc states she should have 2-4 stools a day and yellow (sorry to be graphic lol) – but she is only doing one each day to TWO days and it’s half yellow, half green. Talked to the doc and she is not concerned. What is normal? Anything else I could try/do? I do give her simythicone drops to try to help with gas but I am not sure if that is the whole problem and if it’s even working?

Thanks
- She is eating good – about 4.5 ounces each 3-4 hours…

——————————————

Answer by princess 93
Well if the physicians not concerned then you shouldn’t be either. there is nothing wrong with her – do not worry.

Answer by Josephine
It’s formula in general.

Answer by Rachel R
Is the baby eating good? Sometimes when there are less stools, then they might not be getting enough to eat. A yellowish green color is pretty normal. My son is 3 months old and it is still pretty much like that, but I am breastfeeding too, so that changes everything. I would just keep an eye on her and see if it looks like she is having stomach issues. If you still feel like there is something wrong, maybe you should find a different pediatrician for a second opinion.

The color of an infant not eating solids yet can let you know what is going on in their body, as can the firmness.

As an infant eats more and more solids, the stools change to represent what it eaten. I can tell you that the smells and colors can change in astonishing ways!

He is on Soy Formula
His pediatrician put him on soy because of excessive vomiting. He was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy.

——————————————

Answer by KayKay
yes soy does that because it breaks down like breast milk

Answer by Carrie S
yes. At 7 weeks they are usually yellowish and loose

may I ask why he is on soy? and not a milk based formula? some babies have allergies to soy…. make sure to consult your physician before trying soy products

Answer by Leighed
As long as it’s not seedy looking I think your baby is fine. You will see all the colors of the rainbow in those tiny packages. I do not remember ever seeing it look seedy with my bottle fed ones.

Answer by winkipinki
fever and diahrrea can be a side effect of infant vaccines. If you suspect she might be becoming dehydrated take her to the physician immediatley. Other than that she will be fine
