Question by Peaches:
did they adopt kid because i’m a screw up?

when i was three my parents adopted my first tiny brother. then we had numerous foster children in and out of our home. we adopted another tiny boy at one week.(he is now six;my other brother thirteen;and im sixteen) my parents seem to care more about them then me. they cannot go out without getting my brothers something, always leaving me empty handed. my brothers have many problems such as FAS;RAD;ect. i myself have tourette syndrome,so i used to have a constant yearning to be with my mom but she was always to busy with her “replacement” kids. she always wanted to adopt.she had a miscarriage be for me and is always commenting on how sad she was when she lost the baby.she only comments about her pregnancy with me when she is telling people she threw up each day how much she hated it. i really wonder if my parents decided to adopt because i was not their idea of a child or because at three i was already a screw up. i just do not know.

Sit down, and talk. If they do not have the “time”, then be serious, and state sternly that you have to speak privatly.

If you do speak tell me how it went. (Not being nosy, I was in the same situation. I am adopted though.)

THE FATHER OF MY CHILD HAS TOURETTE SYNDROME. HES BEEN ON SSI PRACTICALLY HIS WHOLE LIFE. HE IS NOT GETTING IT AT THE MOMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE IS INCARCERATED. BUT DOES MY CHILD QUALIFY FOR FOR SSI BENEFITS DUE TO HER FATHERS DISABILITY AND THE FACT THAT HE CANNOT SUPPORT HER?

QUESTION ABOUT TOURETTE’S SYNDROME? http://birthpolicy.org/298/question-about-tourettes-syndrome/ http://birthpolicy.org/298/question-about-tourettes-syndrome/#comments Fri, 29 Oct 2010 07:54:40 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/298/question-about-tourettes-syndrome/ Question by Bri:
Question about Tourette’s Syndrome?

I’ve had TS my entire life but it was not really ever explained to me. I want to know, does TS make you really irritable? I get angry/annoyed with EVERYTHING. If I am doing my homework in my room with the door closed, and my mother comes in and then leaves without closing the door I once got so frustrated with this that I started crying. (Probably cuz my day was so horrible too.) I totally want to kill a baby if somebody stops in the middle of the school hallway and I cannot get to class, or if somebody is just plain stupid. One thing that extremely aggrivates me is when my father states Good Morning to me a god damm billion times in the morning because I do not state it back.

Anyway, as you can see I get very annoyed by many things and probably something somebody usually would not get annoyed by. And there are many other tiny things as well. I am just wondering if my Tourettes has anything to do with it.

Please help if you can, thanks.

People with Tourette syndrome typically have many similar traits to people with OCD, and many people with Tourette’s also have OCD. Being frusterated to tears over an open door or other things that violate your sense of “rightness” are indicative of possible OCD. The fact that the things that bother you the most are during transitions (your mother leaving the room, going between classes, greeting your father in the morning) seems to confirm this. People who have OCD and Tourette’s, as well as teens in general are also susceptible to depression, which could account for the extremity of your reaction. You should get screened for all three conditions. There are medications which could help with OCD and depression, and cognitive behavioral therapy can help with both the OCD and Tourette’s.

Just to be clear, I am not a doctor, and I do not know you, so I cannot be sure that you have OCD, or that your reactions aren’t simply being a teenager with raging hormones and fluctuating neurotransmitters. But it’s worth asking your real doctor, so you can get treatment, especially if these annoyances are affecting your life.

Good luck.

TOURETTE’S SYNDROME? http://birthpolicy.org/87/tourettes-syndrome/ http://birthpolicy.org/87/tourettes-syndrome/#comments Fri, 20 Aug 2010 08:35:32 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/87/tourettes-syndrome/ Question by Shadow:
Tourette’s syndrome?

Ok so the dad of my baby has Tourette’s syndrome. He only has it very mildly and you cannot even notice it really unless you already know about it and pay attention. Anyway, I hear it’s hereditary. I was wondering if anyone knows what the chances are of my child having it too? I hear there is a higher chance in boys than girls. Has anyone else had a baby with someone who has Tourettes?
Thanks for all the links to different websites. They were very helpful!
