BILLIRUBIN LEVELS IN JAUNDICE INFANT?
Oct 29th
Question by Aiden Charle’s Mommy:
billirubin levels in jaundice infant?
I have a baby boy in the NICU. He was born at 34 weeks and 6 days. This day is day 5 in the NICU and he has been under the phototherapy light since yesterday morning for his jaundice. His levels were a little high and the doc said if they go over 13 he would be put under the light. Yesterday morning they went up to 14. This morning they were back down to 12 and I am wondering if any one has had experience with this to when they will turn off the lights since its under 13 again. Its seems impossible to speak to a physician in the NICU and the nurses wont say much. I am so anxious to bring my baby boy home and could use a little hope that he may be off the light soon and home tmrw finally. Anyone know the levels to be taken off the light?
Thanks, I am rooming in at the hospital since it is for the most part a short term stay. I ask the nurses tons of questions but they say only the physician can only answer those and the physicians are never there. They make a quick round and go on to the next hospital. I asked the nurse to call my room next time he is there so hopefully I will be able to catch him to ask him questions.

HOW DOES PHOTOTHERAPY CURES JAUNDICE FOR NEWBORN BABIES?
Oct 17th
Question by shyam29june:
How does phototherapy cures jaundice for newborn babies?
In newborn babies, Jaundice appears when bilirubin builds up faster than a newborn’s liver can break it down and pass it from the body. Reasons for this include:
– A newborn baby’s still-developing liver may not yet be able to remove sufficient bilirubin from the blood.
- More bilirubin is being made than the infant’s liver can handle.
- Too massive an amount of bilirubin is reabsorbed from the intestines before the baby gets rid of it in the stool.
Now the question is, why phototherapy is precribed for jaundice. How does phototherapy helps janudice curing?
