DOCTORS CAN’T EXPLAIN WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY BABY?
Sep 1st
Question by Pretty Girl:
Doctors Can’t Explain What is Wrong with My Baby?
I have a 6 month old baby girl that is just constantly ill. Since the day she was born she has had trouble nursing and can’t swallow very well at all. The physicians at the hospital where she was born just said it was dysphagia, which is not an answer, but they did not seem all that worried about it. They had to put a feeding tube in her and it is totally is heart breaking. When she was about a month old she stopped crying much and stopped really reacting towards anything. I called her pediatrician and took her in the next day. They did not seem concerned either. She was about 2-3 months old when her belly started getting really bloated and she was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. They had to switch her to a special formula, but she still has a feeding tube. A few weeks later she started sweating like crazy! I rushed her to the hospital and everything was fine, her temperature was normal and everything. They could not explain it so they sent us home. It was when she was about 4 months old when she just was not reaching her milestones. She still could not life her head, she could not follow objects with her eyes, she never smiled, no vocalizations, no laughs, can’t hold cannot bear weight on her legs, doesn’t seem to recognize my face, not one squeal or sound, can’t roll over, never coos when I speak to her, can’t grasp toys, and can’t imitate any sounds! I took her to her pediatrician who diagnosed her with encephalomyelitis most likely caused by a viral infection. They put her on corticosteroids at first, I think it was methylprednisolone. Nothing changed. The physicians could not figure it out at all and did a bunch of tests, including an HIV test, which came back positive. I told them that is was impossible and she could not have HIV. I do not have HIV. I had myself tested and I was clear. It did not make any sense to me! Last month her joints have become very stiff and she can’t move much without pain. I took her back to the pediatrician and they sent us to a specialist who told us she did not have HIV or encephalomyelitis, but she has Adhesive arachnoiditis, which is incurable. They put her on a pain killer. By now I am totally overwhelmed. I took her to several more doctors, one telling me she has Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and just told me to keep her calm and have her rest and it should go away on its own. Another physician told me it was Lyme Nueroborreliosis and they put her on antibiotics. There has been no change and I can’t get a definate answer. I am so frustrated and just want somebody to help my baby!

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE TABLETS FOR IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME WHILST TTC?
Feb 24th
Question by Neen:
Is it safe to take tablets for Irritable Bowel Syndrome whilst ttc?
Me and my partner are ttc (which I havent mentioned to my GP) but last week I was prescribed Colofac as the dr suspects I have IBS (which I have looked at the symptoms and I do not think I have). I havent started taking them yet, and this day I read that you shouldn’t take take them if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. I am slightly worried so just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me? Me and my partner are so desperate to conceive and I dont want to take anything that is going to hinder conception or harm the baby if I do conceive.
Any ideas?

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME AND PREGNANCY?
Dec 24th
Question by Emma S:
irritable bowel syndrome and pregnancy?
I have recently been diagnosed with ibs and have only recently got married. My husband and i were keen to start a family as soon as possible but had glandular fever which i am now just getting over if i dont over do things but my stomach has been playing up which the doc has diagnosed as IBS. This year i have moved house, got married, and i have a stressful job i also instruct dancing. I have now given up work for the foreseeable future to let my body recupperate and get back to normal and hopefully not being stressed will help. In all other aspects of life we are ready to have a family and are in a good position. Does anyone have any advice and does anyone know if a baby can be harmed if the mom has ibs or had glandular fever. We want to make sure we’re doing the right thing. Sorry for going on a bit

DO YOU THINK I MIGHT HAVE IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME?
Oct 29th
Question by hopeful:
Do you think I might have irritable bowel syndrome?
Ok, so I know I have to have a DR diagnosis me, but I can’t until my baby is born(I’m pregnant currently). I just want your advice on if what I have been experiencing is IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) or not. I have been expreiencing these symptoms for a long time and realize that there must be something wrong with me. Since March 2003 I have had the following symptoms: diarrhea (mostly diarrhea), cramps, constipation (on occasion), stomach gurgling, relief after passing stools from pain, bowel movements frequency range from less than 3 a week (constpation) to 2-3(sometimes not that often, but has even been more than 3 times a day on occasion) times a day (diarreha) and when I have went a long time from a bowel movement when I finally do go it is usually diarreha. The symptoms mentioned often occur after stressful situations/stress menstruation or after a massive meal other times have been random occurrences.
I have read that trama can cause IBS so here are some things that have happened to me: I had a very bad childhood(age 7-18), at age 15 I got food poiosning (vomited until green bile came up), I had my 1st miscarraige (I’ve had 6 miscarraiges total in my life) at age 19, during basic training for the military I noticed my symptoms (diarreha) beginning, I had a breast bioposy done to remove to non-cancerous cysts at age 20, while pregnant w/my 1st child (had her at age 21) during my last trimester I had (diarreha the most severe range for me 2nd-3rd trimester) by taking potassium pills (over the counter) noticed a decrease in symptoms (diarrhea).
Well, I think that covers all of my medical history with the IBS symptoms or trama that could have caused me to get this is concerned for the most part. Any and all advice is welcome (please do not be rude or make fun of me) thanks!!
Also the diarreha usualy lasts 2-5 days out of the week. This week has been 3 days out of the week so far and ranged 1-2 times in the day (2 times was today).
I had another diarreha episode this day after some stress, so I definatly think I have a problem.

COULD I HAVE IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME?
Oct 22nd
Question by JadeNolis:
Could I have irritable bowel syndrome?
I am CONSTANTLY in the bathroom. At first I was thinking that it was just my period. But I have been keeping a closer eye on it, and it seems to be all the time. I have not changed my diet at all. The only difference in anything is that I had a baby in December. But this did not start until February or March. Could it be IBS all of a sudden?
I have no medical insurance.
