BABIES WITH FLAT HEAD SYNDROME? http://birthpolicy.org/425/babies-with-flat-head-syndrome/ http://birthpolicy.org/425/babies-with-flat-head-syndrome/#comments Wed, 10 Nov 2010 18:50:01 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/425/babies-with-flat-head-syndrome/ Question by Crystal:
Babies with flat head syndrome?

I think my daughter has a flat head. Does anyone have any experience with this? Anyone used a corrective helmet or has the head just formed superior after bub was sitting? How serious does it have to be to get a helmet. I have an appointment with a specialist next week, just wondering how common it is.
She is 5 months, and it flat at the back, not the sides

My son had a very flat head, I think it’s fairly common, I was not even aware it was a ‘syndrome’! He did look very odd for a while as the back of his head was literally verticle but he is 10 months now and it has got noticably superior since he is been crawling and on his back less. You can get these cushions which are supposed to prevent it, like flat gel cushions with a tiny dip in for the head, my health visitor suggested it and I purchased one but by the time I got it the damage had already been done, which I am sure is the case with yours too, but future reference for any more babies you might have lol! I am sure he will be fine, of course the specialist will tell you about the helmet but I have never come across a baby that is had to wear one of these (and I know quite a few babies – well their mums anyway!) so I would envision it would have to be pretty bad before it came to that! Good luck! :-)

WILL BOUNCER MAKE MY BABY DEVELOP FLAT HEAD SYNDROME? http://birthpolicy.org/270/will-bouncer-make-my-baby-develop-flat-head-syndrome/ http://birthpolicy.org/270/will-bouncer-make-my-baby-develop-flat-head-syndrome/#comments Fri, 29 Oct 2010 07:54:02 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/270/will-bouncer-make-my-baby-develop-flat-head-syndrome/ Question by badtzadvice:
will bouncer make my baby develop flat head syndrome?

I’m a new parent, affraid of everything that could harm my baby, even the tiniest tiny thing bothers me.
Will bouncer make the baby develope flat head syndrome?
She spend around 4-5 hours on her bouncer (take a nap in it).
At night time we always move her in different position to avoid it.
Thank you!

Answer by AJ
As long as the material sags and forms around the head, it shouldn’t. If it is hard and doesnt move, probably so.
Congrats on being a new parent!!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOUR BABIES FLAT HEAD TO LOOK NORMAL? http://birthpolicy.org/170/how-long-did-it-take-for-your-babies-flat-head-to-look-normal/ http://birthpolicy.org/170/how-long-did-it-take-for-your-babies-flat-head-to-look-normal/#comments Sun, 03 Oct 2010 11:37:03 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/170/how-long-did-it-take-for-your-babies-flat-head-to-look-normal/ Question by Roxy:
How long did it take for your babies flat head to look normal?

My son has a mild to moderate case of flat head syndrome on one side. I am wondering how long it took your babies to look normal one’s you started treatment. Did you use a helmet or repositioning or some other treatment? and did your child have a mild, moderate, or severe case? How old was your baby when you started treatment?

Answer by I Haz A Bucket.
Our boy had a flat spot(moderate)from about 3 months. We used positional therapy to prevent it from getting worse but since it was on the right side back of his head it really didnt begin evening out until he wasnt sleeping on his back/sides ne more when he started to roll around since then it has been getting a lot better. I found the positional just helped him to not get worse but that might just be my experience. And hes 8 months now and while its still a tiny flat its no where near as bad as it was at 3 months of age when we started the positional therapy. Just make sure you are consistent with it and it helps. He never got bad enough to need a helmet thank goodness.
Good Luck.

I THINK MY 3MONTHS OLD DAUGHTER MIGHT HAVE HEARING PROBLEM? http://birthpolicy.org/45/i-think-my-3months-old-daughter-might-have-hearing-problem/ http://birthpolicy.org/45/i-think-my-3months-old-daughter-might-have-hearing-problem/#comments Fri, 20 Aug 2010 07:25:17 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/45/i-think-my-3months-old-daughter-might-have-hearing-problem/ Question by **~GooGoo~** *~GaGa~*:
I think my 3months old daughter might have hearing problem?

My 3 months baby girl have been around 2 of my very loud dogs ever since she was inside my tummy. I was told that when baby is used to loud noises inside the moms womb he or she will not let noises bother her much while napping and such. you know how when most newborns hear loud sudden noise or just loud noises they jump and sometimes even cry? well my daughter have been nothing like that. she can take long naps with my dogs constantly barking plus my husband watching his ufc fights on tv. She passed her first hearing test when she was born so i wasnt worried until just recently. i saw how my friends 2 months old react to sounds and made me wonder if my daughter could hear well. i search on the web and tried mostly everything. She doesnt turn her head where the sound is coming from or response to my voice. but this could be because she has flat head syndrome and she still doesnt have a strong neck support to turn her head freely.

have anyone had this problem? should i worry and have her take another hearing test?

Answer by Shizam
Your baby is unique, so try not to compare her to other babies. Is she smiling at you when you sing her a song or state a familiar phrase? I would be concerned if she was absolutely unresponsive. Some adults are light or heavy sleepers, and the same rule applies to babies. Some sleep longer than others, which for three months of age, is absolutely normal.
