Conjunctivitis In Babies
MY BABY HAS A STRANGE, GREEN/YELLOW DISCHARGE IN HER EYE…?
Apr 28th
Question by :
My baby has a strange, green/yellow discharge in her eye…?
I know what you may be thinking… that it’s a viral or allergic infection known as Conjunctivitis. And that may be so. But here is what is strange and what I cannot solve by searching on the internet:
My baby is 19 weeks, or rather a little over 4 months old now. She was born perfectly healthy, but a few days after developed a conjunctivitis in both her eyes with greenish-yellow mucous in the inner-corners that would crust overnight. A week later it was gone. And then within two weeks after that it developed once more in ONLY her left eye. She was almost a month old when it started. And it is STILL there. It will not go away.
Her pediatrician told me it was a bacterial infection known as conjunctivitis and that it was contagious. He prescribed me this ointment to apply to her eye in a little white tube and I would squeeze it into the lower eyelid and inner-corner.
She still has a watery eye each day with greenish mucous that crusts over unless I wipe it away. Sometimes her eye gets red and irritated because she claws at it so much. I feel so bad for her and do not know what more to do. Her physician acts like it’s not a big deal and I am a hair’s width away from changing pediatricians because of it.
So, if there’s anyone out there that may know why she has had this for 3 months, please let me know why or what it could be that’s causing it. So far, she has no known allergies to foods, formulas or detergents, so I doubt it’s allergic.
Thank you.

MY 4 MONTH OLD HAS EYE INFECTION…PLEASE HELP!?
Feb 29th
Question by american:
My 4 month old has eye infection…PLEASE HELP!?
My daughter is 4 months 1 week and this morning she had just a little bit of yellow discharge coming from her eye. I cleaned it out with a tissue and it was fine. She later took a nap and when she woke up it was worse. Then another nap and she could not even open her eye. Its reddish and swelled up and a lot of yellow discharge with tears. I had that when I was a kid and my mother used saline drops and it kinda healed on its own after couple of days.
Could this be infection? or conjunctivitis?
Did your baby have anything similar? If so how did you treat it? How long? I am just so worried for her right now, I called my doc and they told me to go to an important care but I do not have a automobile and my husband is not home.
PS it’s only on her left eye
Yes, I am breastfeeding, thank you Sarah.

3 MONTH OLD EYE INFECTION?
Dec 3rd
Question by Brandy:
3 month old eye infection?
My daughter is 3 months old and I took her to the physicians almost a week ago because her eyes were getting glued shut in the middle of the night while she was sleeping and they were weeping yellow stuff out of them during the day. Her pediatrician gave her a prescription of some stuff that kinda looks like Vaseline to put in her eyes twice a day for 2 weeks. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and her eyes are a lot superior but they are still weeping a little bit of gunk from them. Has anyone else had this problem? I am going to be calling the pediatrician tomorrow if it is not gone I just wondered if anyone used medicine for conjunctivitis for their baby and did not have it go away within 2 weeks.

ANY EXPERIENCE WITH CONJUNCTIVITIS?
Aug 7th
Question by jupiter:
Any experience with conjunctivitis?
My little daughter is 6mo and she has had blocked tear ducts ever since she was born… about a week ago i realized her eye lids were red and thought it was because i kept cleaning them with sterile compresses due to increased yellow discharge…. then after about 5 days, we were told it was in fact an infection, the conjunctivitis… i was sooo mad at myself for not being more sensitive about it… we took her to the doctor’s immediately after we realized, she was given a treatment and we just started it this morning.. has your baby had this problem? how long does it take to clear once you start the treatment??
thanks in advance

WHAT’S UP WITH MY 5 WEEK OLD?
May 11th
Question by Stevie:
What’s up with my 5 week old?
Now before you say that I should just take her to the doctor, I am. I have an appointment tomorrow morning for her, but was wondering if I could get some input from others.
My daughter was born at almost 10 lbs and she’s almost 12 now. Up until a couple of days ago, she was eating about 4.5-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. The physician believes her to have acid reflux as when she feeds, she gets hysterical, arches her back and even wails when we stop to try and burp her (it’s awful). She also has a blocked tear duct that has developed into conjunctivitis once. My poor girl.
She recently developed really bad acne even around her eyes. Her eyes got really red and swollen and I was not sure if they were infected or if it was due to the conjunctivitis or the acne. I took her to the local ER and they said to just stop the conjunctivitis meds to see if she’s allergic. We did and it did go away, but then it came back in the same eye that still has a blocked tear duct. I reluctantly put some of the gel on her one eye again because it was getting fairly crusty and it took care of the crust, but now her eye is red again (on the lid). Her other one is red on the lid as well, but not anything like the other one. Oddly enough, she keeps rubbing the one that doesn’t appear to be giving her a problem.
Anyway, the main problem is she’s EXTREMELY fussy all day. Basically if she’s awake, she’s crying/screaming/wailing hysterically just like she does when she feeds due to the alleged reflux. I am constantly hugging her, rocking her, walking her around and she’ll stop for maybe a minute or so, but start up again. Normally if she has a dry diaper and is not hungry, she’s fine but now it doesn’t seem to matter. She is not sleeping as well and rather than eating every 3-4 hours, she’s been hungry just about every 2 and wanting to drink anywhere from 1-3 ounces then passing out for anywhere from 10 minutes to maybe an hour if I am lucky. I have checked her temperature periodically and it’s normal.
Has anyone else experienced this with their newborn? Is it possibly a growth spurt or something else normal? Could it be her eye is bothering her even though she’s not acting like it? Any other insight or possibilities are welcomed as I want to bring them all up to the pediatrician tomorrow because I want to get to the bottom of this ASAP. It’s so hard to see my girl so upset all the time.

MY LITTLE BABY HAS PINK EYE! HOW DO I COMFORT HIM?
Apr 12th
Question by Lala:
My little baby has pink eye! How do I comfort him?
Oh Lord, I think my baby of just 5 months has conjunctivitis and at this hour I am only now seeing it since he just got up for his bottle. Tomorrow I need to go to the physician with him but what to do in the meantime? He is not sleeping well, crying a lot (and he does not cry unless very uncomfortable or very hungry) and I cannot get to sleep tonight. I am worried he may have some pain with that obvious discomfort. Besides the warm rag to remove the sticky stuff, what else can I do tonight? He is just a little baby. I think maybe he got it from my 3 y.o. who probably brought it home from school though he has no sign of it…. I am so worried about the baby.
