Question by Claudia-Elena’s Mommy:
Anyone have their newborn/infant get Chicken Pox?

My daughter is 8.5 months old. She got the Chicken Pox. We do not know from who, because no one that we know of has them! What has been your experience? Anything to soothe their skin? I have heard about Oatmeal in the bath water. Any recommendations will help! Thank you
1) Already confirmed with Dr. it is the Chicken Pox! 2) Chicken Pox Vaccine is not given until they are 12 months old!

Answer by Momma
Actually, try ZOVIRAX, its a topical cream for people with HERPES, but it works wonders,

ask your physician about it,

ALSO, Most babies are given a Chicken Pox Shot now,
this could have been the trigger for her Chicken pox,
as My son 11 years old

HAD herpes simplex on his face,
after receiving the Chicken pox shot , that is given again at 11 years old

I used the cream and the spots were gone in less than a week

Will my baby get chicken pox?

I just found out that my uncle has shingles and he was around my 8 month old the other day. I have been told that this can give my baby chicken pox. When would they show up and should I keep her away from other babies?

Answer by needing advice
i do not think so. chicken pox are only contagious at the end stages of them, when they are ewww and crusty. but i do not believe you can get chicken pox from shingles

CAN INFANT GET CHICKEN POX FROM HIS MOTHER IF SHE TOUCHES SOMETHING THAT WAS TOUCHED BY PERSON WITH SHINGLES? http://birthpolicy.org/348/can-infant-get-chicken-pox-from-his-mother-if-she-touches-something-that-was-touched-by-person-with-shingles/ http://birthpolicy.org/348/can-infant-get-chicken-pox-from-his-mother-if-she-touches-something-that-was-touched-by-person-with-shingles/#comments Wed, 10 Nov 2010 18:48:00 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/348/can-infant-get-chicken-pox-from-his-mother-if-she-touches-something-that-was-touched-by-person-with-shingles/ Question by Blossom:
Can infant get Chicken Pox from his mom if she touches something that was touched by person with Shingles?

——————————————

Answer by The mom
In theory, yes- however there are a few quid pro quos. The person with shingles would have had to had contact with the touched item on the spot with the open and weeping sores. Then the mom would have had to touch that item while it was still damp, and transfer the chicken pox virus to her infant. That is a whole lot of touching and transfering going on, and just not a highly likely scenario. For one thing, somebody with a shingles outbreak usually has it on the trunk of their body, and covered with a bandage. The skin there is pretty sensitive, so they do not just go casually rubbing it on things in the first place. Primarily chicken pox is spread from an active case to others through the respiratory tract- except within families where there is more skin to skin contact. Even then, it’s not easily spread that way. With shingles, on the other hand, you have more of a localized outbreak, and there is not respiratory shedding of virus. So it’s less contagious, and really does require some pretty constant skin to skin contact. I just do not think it is highly likely to transmit from mom to child in the way you describe.

Can a parent of an infant who has chicken pox spread the virus?

My daughter has chicken pox and I already have had the virus as a child. Can I spread the virus to others since I am constantly around her?

Answer by Ellen G
Yes. Even if you do not get the disease you can carry the virus and spread it others. This can be very hazardous to adults who have never had Chicken Pox before. Even if a person has had the disease they can get shingles. Please, stay home!!

What are the risks for my 2 week old baby with chicken pox?

My baby has just contracted chicken pox from his brother. What are the risks – I am his mother and had it as a child, I am also breastfeeding. I am so worried he will develop complications. So far he has no symptoms other than the spots. Is there a chance he will get a mild case because of immunity from me? or, will he get a serious case because he is so young?

We took him to the children’s hospital and they stated we need to keep an eye on him. I was just wondering if people knew a tiny more detail, especially from their own experience.

Ask your pediatrician. Chicken pox is usually not dangerous.
