Question by Becka E:
Going out to stores and restaurants with a newborn?

Did you go to stores and restaurants with your newborn or baby? How did you go about it? Did you use a stroller, sling or carrier/baby bjorn? When baby cried/got hungry, did you breast feed or bottle feed? When going to a restaurant did you just bring the carseat? Where did you put the carseat? Did it fit into a booth? (I have graco safe seat). Just looking for a few tips and tricks when we do decide to step out. Thanks so much!

Answer by GranolaMom
I took my boys everywhere with us when they were newborns. I used a sling or wrap, and nursed them wherever we happened to be.

The carseat stayed in the car, so no worries about where to put it.

My baby LOVED the playtex drop ins with the brownish nipple. They feel a lot like the breast. Also, when you feed her, turn her into your chest as much as you can.

TIPS ON KEEPING A TODDLER OCCUPIED WHILE FEEDING NEWBORN PLEASE? http://birthpolicy.org/455/tips-on-keeping-a-toddler-occupied-while-feeding-newborn-please/ http://birthpolicy.org/455/tips-on-keeping-a-toddler-occupied-while-feeding-newborn-please/#comments Thu, 11 Nov 2010 14:59:15 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/455/tips-on-keeping-a-toddler-occupied-while-feeding-newborn-please/ Question by geri:
tips on keeping a toddler occupied while feeding newborn please?

Hi people,
I’ve just had a baby girl last week, and have a 19month old boy already. I am being really careful to give him loads of love when the baby’s asleep and involve him in nappy changing, etc when she is awake so he doesn’t feel left out.

However, the one part I am clueless about is how to occupy him while feeding her (bottle feeding). She is prone to spitting up bottles at the moment too, so I cannot really walk around with her, and need to sit as still as possible while I am feeding.
This makes the tiny guy upset and frustrated because he doesn’t comprehend why I am suddenly unable to play with him. Stories aren’t working because he normally reads them on my lap with me. What I did do was create a tiny tub of toys that I just take out when it’s feeding time but I am pretty sure the novelty will wear off there too.

Any ideas PLEASE???!!!

Answer by Pippin
Is he a child who likes to be helpful? So could you involve him in the feeding? Have him bring you the bottle, then a spit up rag. Then he can ‘help’ burp her, and so on.

tips on traveling with a 7 month old baby who bottle feeds?

We would be away for several days for the first time (by car, long-drive) and would be staying in a hotel. I was just wondering how the cleaning/sterilizing of the bottles and feeding would be. Help please!

——————————————

Answer by momoftwins
We would have a few bottles. One for formula and one for juice.

When we get to the hotel we had just wash them out with warm water.

Any tips on how to begin bottle feeding my 8 month baby? I have been breastfeeding all this time.?

——————————————

Answer by Jill P
If you have been exclusively breastfeeding, he/she is likely to reject a bottle completely. At 8 months, it might just make sense to move straight to a sippy cup.

My son was exclusively breast fed except for very occasional bottles when we went out, but after about 3 months old he WOULD NOT take a bottle, no matter how hard we tried or how hungry he got. So we just introduced the sippy cup around 7-8 months and it worked fine.

Good luck!

any advice or tips

——————————————

Answer by Mindy
I bottle fed my first child… I ended up using warm tap water… because by the time I shook it up with the formula, it was perfect.

DO think about breastfeeding though, I am now breastfeeding my second child and it is the ideal experience ever. I love it

I do not know ANYONE who boils tap water to use with infant formula. Nor did my pediatrician ever advocate it. As far as microwaving… I always heard it messes with the nutrients in the milk?

Do you have any tips about how to begin bottle-feeding a 4-month old baby breast-milk?

I need to go back to work, and at least need to be out about 6 hours, so I need to store some breast-milk and let my mother to use bottle to feed my baby. Does any one know any good tips about how to get a 4 months baby to be used to bottle-feeding. I tried several times, but it seems hard. He cried a lot. Also, I tried different teats and bottles.

Answer by diggs76
You do not have to use a bottle, your caregiver with some patience can use a cup. do some research about this and it makes sense. a easy regular cup is all you need and breastfed babies seem to adapt superior to it. good luck

Answer by spiritwalker
are you making it luke warm? If you are, add just a touch of honey, she should begin as so as she knows the bottle is there, you did squeeze just a tiny of the milk so she could taste and smell it? And keep her warm.

ANY TIPS FOR BOTTLE FEEDING AN INFANT? http://birthpolicy.org/105/any-tips-for-bottle-feeding-an-infant/ http://birthpolicy.org/105/any-tips-for-bottle-feeding-an-infant/#comments Sun, 05 Sep 2010 23:13:39 +0000 admin http://birthpolicy.org/105/any-tips-for-bottle-feeding-an-infant/ Question by docal:
any tips for bottle feeding an infant?

My two month old has exclusively nursed for the past eight weeks and I am going back to work in two weeks so she needs to learn to use a bottle. We are still going to use breast milk, but I cannot be there to nurse her during the day. We have tried five different nipple/bottle systems and she fights them all. I am no where near my husband and her when they are trying so she doesn’t see, smell, or hear me. She has gotten superior over the last few days, but it still takes her about 30-45 minutes to get an ounce or two down and she should be eating 4-5 ounces per meal. Anybody have any other tips for us?

——————————————

Answer by miss_chrissy_dawn
don’t know if you have tried the Advent bottles..but they are most like the mom’s breast in that aspect…she might do superior on those bottles.
