SKIPPING THE NIGHT TIME FEEDING?
Feb 4th
Question by Dr. Souc:
Skipping the night time feeding?
My 11 week old son usually goes to bed at 8 pm and sleeps until 230. I feed and lay him back down with no problem. About 21/2 to 3 hours later he is back up crying. I have tried the patting and sushing, the pacifier (usually holds him for 30 extra min at a time). The only thing that seems to get him back to sleep is a bottle, and I know he can obviously go longer in between feedings. Sometimes he will take a full bottle and other times he will only take a little. Any one else with a similar problem? Need some tips to try and skip this feeding or is he just being an infant and this stage to will pass?

ARE OR WERE YOUR CHILDREN PICKY EATERS? DID YOU GET THEM TO OVERCOME THIS? DO YOU HAVE…?
Jan 15th
Question by tulachek:
ARE OR WERE YOUR CHILDREN PICKY EATERS? did you get them to overcome this? do you have…?
…experiences & advice to share?
oh yes we have all been down this road… funny my oldest was very picky and sometimes would get a case of “Lock Jaw”… as an infant… about 4mos he would take one bite and somehow would accomplish the impossible.. chewing without swallowing… next time he tried this… i just put his food away.. tried again at lunch.. same results… and by the time dinner rolled around.. no problem… he ate.. my youngest was never picky… he ate everything.. i started to let them explore feeding themselves at 5mos… they were developing quite fast and were able to sit..it seemed to work better… at one point my youngest would just have a preference for peanut butter… my pediatrician check him over and said not to worry… of course i kept regular visits to the physicians when they would have these spells..
what were your experiences with “picky eaters” how did you help them overcome this habit? how long did it go on? if you are a grandparent… do your grands do this too?
care to share?

REFLUX, FEEDING, TEETHING… HELP!?
Jan 2nd
Question by outerlimitnz:
Reflux, feeding, teething… HELP!?
My 3 month old baby girl has Refulx… She was taking Infant Gaviscon out of a bottle before I breastfeed. About a week ago she turned her nose up to the breast and was prefering the bottle. My physician put her on Ranitidine to stop the need for bottles so she’d keep feeding off me but we are still having to top her up with formula as I do not seem to have enough milk. It is almost impossible to get her to take her ranitidine and she spits it out (so would I!!! it tastes bad) so I do not know if I should now go back the the gaviscon. She will stip periodically feed from me but still refuses occasionaly so I can’t do away with the bottles completely…. she also seems to have really bad wind with breast and bottle!!!
Ontop of all this she is now slicing a tooth… not a normal first tooth it’s her canine or first molar (not sure which) so is no longer sleeping though the night!
I comprehend that this is all normal baby stuff but would love any tips or ideas to make it easier…..

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLE FEEDING THEIR BABY?
Dec 23rd
Question by breisingermela:
Does anyone else having trouble feeding their baby?
My daughter is 10 and a half months old, and I am getting a bit frustrated feeding her. She will not eat her veggies…at first I thought it was the fact that maybe she did not liked canned veggies, so I steamed veggies for the past week and a half and now she will not even eat them. It seems like the only thing she will eat is spaghetti and meatballs and bread and her snacks and fruit cups. I even tried mixing the veggies with her spaghetti and she refuses and even takes the veggies out of her mouth. Is this something that will change over time? Is it a phase they go through? Should I continue to still try and feed her the veggies and other meat until she likes them? My husband is a very picky eater, could she be taking after him?
She will not even touch baby food anymore. She likes her solid foods. She doesn’t even like mashed potatoes.

TIPS FOR A VERY GASSY 3 WEEK OLD?
Dec 16th
Question by makotsute:
Tips for a very gassy 3 week old?
I’m having a lot of gas issues with my 3 week old daughter. She gulps so much air as shes feeding (bottle fed) and no matter how many times we take the bottle away to slow her down, it doesn’t make a difference. She fights being burped by tensing up and crying making it very difficult to get any gas out, and even when she does burp well it doesn’t seem to make a difference. As she sleeps you can hear the gas gurgling in her tummy from across the room. It’s becoming frustrating as she never sleeps soundly and takes forever to put back to bed.
I’ve discussed it with my doctor, who doesn’t seem to think there is an underlying issue. He suggested adding a little sugar to her bottles to help (not sure how it would, but we tried it) It worked for a little while but doesn’t seem to be making a difference anymore.
Other things I have tried:
- burping more often (currently she burps about twice every half ounce) and in every position imaginable
- loosening the bottle lids
- tightening the bottle lids
- removing all air from liners
- leaving a little air in the liners to make sure there’s enough airflow for formula to pass
- sitting her up to eat
- sugar
- ovol (makes almost no difference at all)
- ‘bicycling’ her legs
- switching formulas (currently on similac senstive lactose free, it concurs with her superior than others were)
- checking all soothers to make sure they were not leaking air
- using store bought bottled water vs. boiled tap water
Let me stress – this is not a colic issue- she fusses and wakes up often, but not screaming unrelentingly. She’s overall a fairly content baby. She does have other symptoms suggesting GERD… however my physician doesn’t believe GERD exists in infants and will not diagnose… lol.
PLEASE moms, any tips/home remedies/otc medicines/tricks you have, do share! My little girls tummy and my sleep deprivation will thank you! =)

SUDDEN FEEDING PROBLEMS WITH NEWBORN?
Dec 16th
Question by Stevie:
Sudden feeding problems with newborn?
Last night and all day today, my daughter has been absolutely hysterical during feedings. I always get to her and begin to feed her prior to her getting to the point of crying so I know it’s not that. However, as soon as I begin to feed her, she starts chugging it like she’s been starving. She drowns herself and then begins to pull away from the bottle, so then when I pull it absolutely away to wipe her mouth, she loses it… wailing and crying uncontrollably. I give her back the bottle and she grabs at it as if to hold it in place so I do not take it away. When I try to stop to burp her, she loses it again and will not stay still. I do not know what to do. I talked to the physician and she said it could be reflux but they’re not sure and I have to come in next week to have her evaluated. In the meantime, every feeding now has become torture. She’s in such distress and I do not know what to do. She has a little congestion so we decided to try to flush out her nostrils in hopes perhaps it was because she was having trouble breathing. Not the case. I had stored some bottles in the fridge and was thinking maybe they were too cold for her because they were not warmed up enough. Also not the case. She had not had a bowel movement in 3 days so I thought maybe she was constipated and uncomfortable. Well, she finally had one tonight (it was of normal consistency) and she’s still freaking out. The only time she’s not crying now is when she’s asleep. I am not sure if she has gas pain or what? She gets herself so worked up that she coughs, chokes, spits up and gets hiccups. It’s so upsetting to see her in such distress and not knowing what’s wrong. I thought it could be reflux/colic especially since the physician said it could be it, but is not that when crying happens AFTER feeding and not during – or am I wrong? Can anyone help?
I’m using low flow bottles. I have been using them since she was born so I am pretty sure it would not be that otherwise I would think this would’ve been a problem from the very beginning. I also used to wait to burp her at every 1/2 ounce to an ounce, but since she’s been essentially drowning herself in formula after only a few sucks, I do it more often thinking maybe she’s filled with gas and I want to help relieve it. She often wails even louder shortly after she burps or even spits up a little bit.
I pump because she is even more hysterical when I try to breastfeed her…. Thanks for your helpful answer that was so relative to my question……..
I do not produce enough milk so I supplement with formula as well as breast milk that I pump. No need to be rude.

5.5 MONTH OLD INFANT SLEEP ISSUES?
Dec 16th
Question by Deli:
5.5 month old infant sleep issues?
I was wondering what I could do to help my 5 1/2 month old sleep better. Im a single mother that is running out of steam and sleep!
This is her story: She goes to bed around 6:30 or 7 depending on her tiredness. I always nurse her and then give her the bottle and she usually falls asleep. Now the tricky part. I put her down in her crib, which is right next to my bed and 50%of the time she wakes up as soon as her back touches the mattress and starts crying, fussing, louder and louder. From there the only way she will fall back asleep (since she is now full and wont nurse) is by me bobbing and rocking her. It can take anywhere from 15 min to 3 hours to get her back down.
Thats the first part. The second part is that I wake her before I go to bed to feed her again (she is below the growth charts and feeding her is super important), she sleepily has an ounce then off to sleep again. She usually wakes 2 more times; between 2-4 and after that 2 hours later. Its the same story with getting her back down after each wakeup. Can anyone advise me on how to make this get back to sleep better? Im completely exhausted!
Thanks!
