Question by Kimberly:
9 week old baby being bottle fed expressed breast milk – eating every 2 hours?

I am feeding my 9 week old daughter breast milk from a bottle and have been doing so since she was a week old. She gets NO formula at all. She takes an average of 2.5-3 ounces per feeding and was eating about every 3 hours, but now wants to eat every 2 hours during the day. She just started sleeping from about 11 p.m.until 5 a.m. without waking up to feed. Is this normal? Is she adjusting her intake to make up for the missed feeding?

Yes, babies this age usually eat about every 2 hours, sometimes with a slightly longer stretch at night, but sometimes around the clock.

Keep feeding her on demand and, if necessary, pump more often to meet her increased needs.

that’s great! continue to feed on demand, drink plenty of water, and eat a balanced diet. for breastfeeding questions -seek advice from your lactation consultant. for medical advice -call the pediatrician.
