Question by Lala:
My little baby has pink eye! How do I comfort him?

Oh Lord, I think my baby of just 5 months has conjunctivitis and at this hour I am only now seeing it since he just got up for his bottle. Tomorrow I need to go to the physician with him but what to do in the meantime? He is not sleeping well, crying a lot (and he does not cry unless very uncomfortable or very hungry) and I cannot get to sleep tonight. I am worried he may have some pain with that obvious discomfort. Besides the warm rag to remove the sticky stuff, what else can I do tonight? He is just a little baby. I think maybe he got it from my 3 y.o. who probably brought it home from school though he has no sign of it…. I am so worried about the baby.

I’d use a warm wet wash cloth on his eye to sooth it. Then lots of hugs.

You could brew some chamomile tea, and bring it to just warm to the touch! soak cotton balls and place them on his eyes! Its very soothing and it draws out the infection! Plus the warm tea makes them sleepy!

oh dear, bless your heart. I am sitting here with my 5 month old and I have a three year old who is running high fever and throwing up. the things us mothers go through. My oldest son got pink eye for the first time at 5 months old also. I used the warm wash rag across his eye, be sure not to use it on the other eye though…it will spread easily. try giving him a soothing warm bath to tire him so he will sleep more comfortably and have a warm rag ready for when he wakes up…his eyes may be stuck shut. The warm rag will help free the “gunk” Try not to use the rag so much, it will cause his sensitive skin to be raw, good luck.
This too will pass.
