I think sleeping routines are good for babies and kids, as long as ur a bit flexible about it.

And it sounds like ur 8 month old is sleeping enough during the day since he sleeps about 12 hours straight at night.

Hope this helps and good luck,

They should be getting around 14 hours of sleep at this age, plus or minus some depending on the baby. It sounds like he is right on track. If its not broken do not fix it. In-laws will always have comments, it doesn’t change with age.
I am all for sticking with routines. of course, as he gets older he may nap less or sleep a little less, some flexibility is of course needed but in general I think children enjoy routines, it makes them feel cared for and secure and good sleep is essential. Keep up the good work.
