Question by Yeah:
I just found out that my infant has sickle cell anemia. Please answer this question about protein structure?

In laymans term, how does the amino acid substitution that results in abnormal hemoglobin have a drastic effect on protein structure?

If the amino acids do not connect to build a protein correctly, then the protein is made abnormal. Because all a protein is, is a certain set of amino acids. If those amino acids continue to connect together incorrectly, then the proteins they create will also be made incorrectly. Hope this is what you were looking for!
